Misbah is the best bet among the current lot of average Pak players. He has led the team well but Misbah has also benefited from the fact that there are no great test teams around. Australia maybe the no. 1 ranked team in Tests and ODIs in the world right now but the present side is a pale shadow of the great team that dominated world cricket from 1999 to 2007. South Africa are also good rather than great.
Misbah remains a VERY defensive captain. For starters he has no away test series wins against any of the major test playing nations
To suggest that Misbah is better than IK, Kardar, Miandad and Mushtaq is laughable indeed
Ritchie Benaud, Greg and Ian Chappell, Boycott, Gavaskar, Holding, Viv's views etc. certainly count more than this unknown nobody Peter Oborne..
Just like Mishab has advantage of not having teams like WI and AUS team of 80 to play with, Imran had way to much advantage of having Miandad, Majid, Zaheer, Mohsin, Bari, Qadir etc in his team. We dont have even one player of that caliber in Misbah's team.
In batting skills, Misbah is no where near Yousuf, Miandad, Inzimam, Zaheer etc but I guess we are talking about what he did to keep dragging Pakistani team when it was flat on the ground...

For a team to win, everyone has to perform. That means, bowling, fielding and batting ALL must perform.
While Misbah is not great, but last year he was the only consistent batsmen in the team, he had to stay on and build, even if slowly.
Why? Because all the other batsmen could not stay at crease for long, they cheaply got out with unnecessary risks and poor footwork.
Look even today at the team, their fielding is so shabby that its laughable that these so-called "international" players can't field properly. A simple regulation catch becomes extremely difficult for them to hold on to. They end up giving away a boundary for shots that deserve only a 2, or 3 at most but the ball always 'slips' away from them, or goes under them, etc.

Yes. His foundation building was key in the semi finals. Afridi was right to criticize him.
Afridi never critcized him he humbly accpeted and said I take responsibility of the semi final unlike Misbah who never took responsibility of any defeat

Sorry. You are correct. One of Afridi ' s adorable daughters did criticize Misbah - justifiably I might add. When she was being interviewed in Pakistan as soon as they landed I think.
