I think Mirpur Khas, Mirpur Mathelo and Mirpur Saakro (situated in Sindh) got their names from the Talpur rulers of Sindh, who carried title Mir. Their base was, however, Khairpur Meerus.

The city of Mirpur (Azad Kashmir) was founded in around 1642 AD or 1052 AH by the Ghakhar chief Miran Shah Ghazi. That might be the reason behind name.

BTW Mirpur Mathelo is the city of Moomal (The heroine of Shah Latif)... The famous Kaak Mehal once situated there.

ek hii soobe emN 4-4 shahr ek hii naam se? that's indeed strange...is taraH to majbooran log poore lambe lambe naam lete hoNge taa k Ghalat fehmii na ho...which is against human nature...humans love to shorten names...meraa koi shortened name nahiiN hai...thank God...
...aksar hotaa hai k agar do do yaa teen teen ashKhaas hoN ek hii naam se aur vo saaHib-e-Haisiyat na hoN to unko unke jismaanii ai'b se pukaaraa jaataa hai. even agar do logoN ke aliases/nicks ek hoN aur asl naam alag alag hoN to bhi ham nicks use karte haiN aur unke jismani ai'b se shinaaKht karte haiN...jaise:

-Achchhe kaanaa
-Achchhe Loola

I mean, it's just that in between totally rural and small city life.
Waise, actually it's not that bad. I had fun when I was there..but it's just too "in-between" for my tastes
I remember my cousin took my brother around for "english battles" haha and he got so happy when his "fighter" would win
