‘In a country ridden with beggars, its a rare to see a Sikh stretching out his hands for alms. This is not short of a miracle. The miracle was performed by Guru Gobind Singh 300 years ago on 13 April 1699 AD’ says Khushwant Singh.
What is the importance of 13 April 1699 AD in Sikh History and religion? Its probably the date of establishment of Khalsa. How come it affects Sikhs that today we don’t see Sikh beggars?

interesting, plenty of beggars in our Punjab, looks like we didnt learn good things from them..

But beggary is not discouraged among Muslims (strictly). I can’t make a difference between Sikh philosophy and Muslim philosophy till I know exact teaching of Sikh Guru.

Actually I think the move was do develop Khalsa emotionally, by eliminating begging, he eliminated begging for life, thereby surrenders
