Mir Puriyas

So who over here is from Mir Pur or a Mir Puriya here? basically majority of these people reside in U.K and in Pakistan in Gujarkhan, Gujeranwala, some in Pindi and areas around Pindi and few other places.
I have heard that Mir Puriyas were usually in those villiages where there is now Rawal Dam, Mangla Dam and Terbaila Dam. The got the money for their houses during the time of Ayub Khan and majority of them left for “Velait” (England) for better future.
So yeah, back to the orginal question. Who is a mir puriya here or share roots etc.

.

^ hahahah :hehe:

I'm not sure about Rawal dam or Mangla dam, but as far as I know Tarbela wasn't known to be a "Mir puri" place. It's located in the province of NWFP, hence lots of pathans are there.

I thought Mir Puris were basically from some part of Azad Kashmir. Never heard of Mirpuris in the dams you mentioned. Those are all full of water only. :konfused:

They were displaced from the dam sites and were given British Nationality instead for their sacrifice.. as British companies had big stakes in dam construction…

yeah Azad Kashmir too. Mourgah is another place in the outskirts of RawalPindi where there are lots of Mir Puries.
Yeah of course the dams are full of water now but before there were villiages there.

Interesting stuff,, never knew the history of Mir Puries...
well now do..

No offense to anyone but they are essentially Potohari speaking Punjabis. There is virtually no difference between Northern Punjab (Potohari speaking areas) and that part of AJK.

Islamabad, Chakwal, Attock are all part of the Potohar region, so when you cross into AJK you will experience virtually no change minus the 'AJK' signs appearing. Mirpuri is perhaps Northern Potohari also called Pahari.

hmmm intressting

there was a very long discussion about Mir Puris some time ago...you may still find that thread if you search.
