Minority quota in Pakistan

There are so many unhappy threads on this forum that coming to it is becoming masochistic. I thought some positive news might be a good idea. Some sites quote the percentage of minorities as more than 5 percent, but this a very good development.

Im not sure if this will benefit the Ahmadi ppl or just the lahori group.

‘Provinces will be asked to fix 5% job quota for minorities’

The Pakistan cabinet on Thursday (May 21, 2009) approved a five percent job quota in federal government services for Pakistani minorities (non Muslims) following a proposal by Pakistan Federal Minister for Minorities, Mr. Shahbaz Bhatti.

The landmark pro-minorities’ cabinet approval has sent a wave of joy among Pakistani minorities who until now did not have the privilege of a fixed five percent employment quota in government jobs.

Re: Minority quota in Pakistan

They need to accept they are non-Muslims :bummer:

If you are talking about minorities then they should be gladly able to do that.

Coming to the main article. What kind of quota is this? Is it for competitive exams (Like minority student get a 5% reservation and the other general category candidates appear for 95% seats?)

Also, what happens if the seats go unfilled? Are they added to the seats available next year for minorities or do they get filled by general category students from the same year?

You need to give more details …

well...it says:

<>

according to the news, its for minorities meaning non-Muslims! ... so some one must be non-Muslim or accept the reality to worry for! ...

wiseguyin, I think ATA is talking about Ahmadi people who do not accept their minority status and thereby disown any privileges that might bestow.

This quota will help Christians, Sikhs & hindus, zoroastrians etc. (maybe the Lahori group, but Im not sure)

quote from the news item "The cabinet's approval of a guaranteed job quota for minorities will entitle them to get their share of employment in federal government services including allied government departments and autonomous bodies of government. "

The public services commission would be instructed to ensure a five percent successful candidate share for minorities. I remember there is already a FATA quota and a rural areas quota (unless this has changed) so the new quota should be along similar lines.

The left over seat question is valid inquiry, and a carryover to the next year seems a good option in case there are insufficient candidates.
