Minorities in Islam

I am reading the book 101 questions about Islam by John Renard and it claims that most Muslim rulers gave Zoroastrians and Hindus the same living standards as were awarded to ‘People of the Book’. They were given the option of Jizya and other protections with the exception of letting them inter marry, even to Muslim men. It also claims that people with no religion or Idolatrous of Arabia with no religious scripture were the only people with no rights.

This is contrary to some of the other histories I have read before where it is claimed that Muslim rulers only considered Christians and Jews as valid minorities citing that Zoroastrians had no rights under Umayyad and Abasiyads etc. and the Mugals in India weren’t truly the Muslim rulers.

So, what’s the truth?

Re: Minorities in Islam

Now you should realize that you have been wasting your precious time reading such history books which cotradict with each other. Off course 99% historians are biased and liars as well.
Even if you were a historian you might write that GupShup Forum was a gujrati forum in tamil language where I used to go through when I was only 5 years old.
Trust me, you will still be a historian.

Re: Minorities in Islam

Umar (ra) during his time, did give zorastrians the same rights as the people of the book....
and allowed muslim men to marry their women....
i think i remember reading that he said he head the Prophet (saw) saying that the zorastrians shud be treated as ahl-e-kitaab....

in iran, the muslims, when writing about zartusht, put it like they wud put nay other prophet, hazrat zartusht alayhe salam....
