For all you parents out there with multiple kids…
Is it worth it to get a minivan for just 2 kids, or better to just stick to a large sedan like Camry/Accord/Malibu?
I mean I know definitely minivan has the extra seating/space etc…but do you really need it with 2 kids? My car was totalled a few weeks ago so I am looking for a new car right now. As some may know, I am expecting # 2 right now…so just wondering if the extra price of a minivan is worth it right now…or wait if I have more kids…hehe
As much as I hate minivans because they look so typically yukky, I have one :D. It works real well with the kids, on our frequent travels and when other family is here. You could get an SUV... at least they look cool, but somehow, after all our test drives and comparisions, we ended up buying a minivan for me. Hubby sticks to his sedan.
As Niks said, we have minivan and we have just 2 kids :D. Its even easy on kids.
More room means that when both parents are there and passenger parent has to reach back to take care of something for kids (like they spilled something or unfasten their seat belts) its way easy in minivan as parent can just walk back.
Minivan's sliding door is easy to put the car seat in or take the sleeping kid out in case of car being parked in a tight parking spot.
toddlers cannot open the sliding door from inside. 2-3 times, when we were in my sedan and while we were driving, my kids just reach out to the door and opened it. The fact that new cars dont have child lock anymore makes it very easy for a curious toddler to pull the door handle. I personally think that this only reason is good enough for parents to consider buying minivan
Because of the lower center of gravity, Minivans are less prone to roll over.
Because of big passenger cabin, riders are safe and less chance of getting injured on case of a side impact
Its somehow easy on parents to put or take kids in/out because of just the right height of minivan. Cars are little too low and SUVs are little too high for that
If budget is not a major issue, I definitely reccomend a minvan
when my kids were little and used to constantly bicker in the car I talked to one co worker about buying a big SUV to end that bickering. He had kids too. He said hey even if you buy a 40 feet long trailer , they will still be bickering . So I did not buy that SUV.
I tried the minivan with my 3. And it was a lovely thing getting them in and out when they were infants, it was very easy and comfortable. I was killing my back loading them up into the SUV that we had prior to the van. But I just hated driving the darn thang. It has no front and a very long back and for some reason I just couldnt drive it very well. I never even attempted backing up and I'd clip curbs on turns (I popped a tire 3 times lol!!). The 3rd time I popped a tire, I went and got my lovely, beauteous Jetta - it fits 3 slim car seats in the back and it drives so very nicely AND it has heated driver seat!!! Heaven!
depends on how much you travel. We bought minivan with 2 kids but then we travel a lot and most of the time its whole family traveling. With 2 little ones there is always lot of stuff to carry and minivan made life easy for us. For within-city travel, our Toyota Avalon (Sedan) works great!
