Re: minimum living expenses in Karachi ???
100,000/month for a comfortable time. You'll require "protection" money.
Re: minimum living expenses in Karachi ???
wot is "protection" money??
Re: minimum living expenses in Karachi ???
abey!!! yeh reasonable nahi balke shahana lifestyle ho ga.
hashmijee, I don’t specifically know about Karachi, but from what I’ve heard lately from colleagues, a small family lives comfortably with $30~35K-ish per month. This was two years ago mind you… I’ll let someone else comment on aaj-kal ke haalaat.
Re: minimum living expenses in Karachi ???
what has it got to do with "career"?
Re: minimum living expenses in Karachi ???
career involves your work life, the output of which are your earnings :o
… level of earnings lead to standard of living
shall I go on ![]()

Yes surely 3 people can spend a reasonable life in Karachi in 20,000 Rs. If it is 30,000 as one of friends quoted here, it is well and good and let you save some money as well.
Well this depends on a seemingly endless factors. The main factors are:
- The area you are living in, this also has two sub factors:
a. Do you have your own home in Karachi in that area? (No Rent!!!)
b. Are you going to rent a house in that area? This depends very significantly. (2,000 to 200,000), let’s say. For a descent 2-bedroom and a kitchen house in an average area, be ready to spend 8,000+ per month. (It does not include security deposit you pay when you rent a house. about 40,000+++)
-
Utility Bills (Electricity, Phone, etc…), depends again, put aside 3,000+ with no AC or one AC with limited use.
-
Transportation expenses. Depends again, put aside 3,000, for just you go out to do your requirements. (Does not include repair/Maintenance of Car or Motorcycle)
-
The rest is just eating expenses. 4,000+ If you cook one chicken in a week at your home by yourself.
-
Miscellaneous expenses. (Medical, clothing, etc.), you must have some money in reserve for this, or try to minimize your expenses.
These expenses are as according to middle class families, or lower middle class families. With these expense and style you can live a life about 40% of Karachi spends.
About 20% of Karachi is well beyond even if you spend 200,000 per month. There 1-5 year kids have more expenses than 20,000.
The rest are just spending there lives. If you just want to live in Karachi, and don’t care any thing else, then some families of 8+ members survive with 3,000 to 10,000 per month with a rented home.
So it all depends on you. If you are having a job of 20,000 in Karachi, then I will prefer you to shift alone first and join the job, live a bachelor life for some time here, try to understand the areas of Karachi and the area that suits you. Bring your family only when you know and have decided on every thing. You can save enough money by living alone here to support your family backwards (if it is required so), otherwise you can save some money for your backup in this time.
Good Luck

Re: minimum living expenses in Karachi ???
Thank you so much guys...it seems like about rs. 35,000 should be enough to live a decent life in Karachi for 3 people. Although, I will have to find some work but I am planning that if I don't have a job for atleast 3 years and I spend Rs. 35,000 per month I shuld be fine. Although I am sure that at most with in 1.5 years I will find some way to make money.
Umer Ashraf your reply was really detaild and helped out a lot. I am sure that there are lots of Pakistani here in US that woudl want to move back to Pakistan one day.
I really appriciate all of you guys for reply and helping me make up my mind. :)
