I know what you mean, we have moved 5 times in 5 years, and every time we get rid of so much and promise not to build up on stuff again, i don’t know what it is, i try to be as minimilist as i can, but somehow still manage to collect so much stuff
well what i do, i discard things regularly, i dont buy extra stuff keep it limited, i even never keep more than 5 bedsheets at a time, once they have worn out, next comes in. when i got married huby had this so much stuff n the first thing i did was cleaning n throwing all these extra stuff, the things i saw huby not using from a month i simply ask him u need or not, yes or no, not may be. after every 3 months there is full chanta chanti lolz
Me too. I keep things that I need.. rest I either throw or donate. I don't hang on to things. When it comes to lifestyle, I have tried my best to adopt that minimilast approach. I don't have a whole lot of furniture, things that are needed. Even if I do buy things I don't need, after a while I end up giving it to someone who needs it. With my kiddo I don't have much time to go through things regularly like I used to.
I wish I could adapt to that but it amazes me what my mother things about having less stuff.. oh nad desis can never have enough center tables.. did you notice that? :D
^^have a one in, one out policy! Hubby is a hoarder of clothes so sometimes I pack his old clothes and leave them in the garage- if he doesn't ask for a specific item for a few weeks it gets donated.
if you live in the west, and work or go to school, chances are you have a desi wardrobe and american wardrobe and both wardrobe need appropriate matching accessories (can’t exactly wear jhumkay and karay with your business suit now can ya?) and each of those wardrobes are broken down into: super fancy/wedding appropriate, davat approrpiate, lawns, and ghar ke kapray/work clothes, casual clothes, ghar ke kapray, workout/activewear etc)
guys can pretty much get away with wearing their work clothes for desi events. :hinna:
We don’t do impulse shopping and we recycle things.
Our style is simple and clean so no overstuffing of furniture or decoration in the house. No mismatch furniture either.
We only buy clothes that we need and don’t get caught up in sales.
Don’t keep anything that is not in current use.
Absolutely can be done. We do it and it creates a nice clean open spaced feel in the home that both of us find really relaxing.
Major bonus - its easy to maintain/clean.
