No, what we need is seal the border with mines … no fence no wall will work, they have bombs to take care of that.

I agree. That is the best and the only way to seal the border with Afghanistan
Re: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lies
^ are you kidding? what of people who have families both sides of the border, and probably are too far from the official checkpoints?
there can be legitimate reasons to go back and forth from the border, while a fence/wall is more humane, mines are just an awful way of doing this.
nobody mines against their own people.

But knowing the kind of people we are dealing with here they can easily make a hole in the wall without anyone knowing. It's just impossible to keep a close watch on the entire 1500km or so of the border.
Re: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lies
dunno man. it is pretty inhumane, and children are much more likely to be killed by mines than adults. once laid its extremely costly to remove them, so it may be a short term fix but a long term liability.

If they want to visit "families" they have to go thru usual visa n stuff, just like people who got divided when Pakistan was created (families divided in Punjab/Sindh etc). We have already seen how much security "family" visits have earned for our country.

We are not talking about mining residential areas, just the "borders".

what of residential areas near borders?
Re: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lies

but we don't see crossing of borders at will, arms smuggled and what not. I am not sure how the borders are really "protected" in that front though (fences or check-posts or other technique).

those areas can be "fenced" first then minded (fence on the residential side and mines immediately afterwards)
Re: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lies
These people have apparently never been to the border areas with Afghanistan. Otherwise they would know that the border is incredibly porous and cannto be walled and neither the people living in those areas will ever accept any wall between the same tribes living on the both side of Durand line.
Re: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lies
and the idea of mining the border is absolutely rediculous.

its only fenced in certain areas. america/mexico dont have a fence all along the border even though they have a huge immigration problem, its simply too costly. and mines are too inhumane.
people go back and forth for all sorts of reasons, most of them dont deserve being crippled for life. the punishment does not fit the crime.
they're still removing mines from vietnam and korean wars, decades ago. its a long, time consuming, expensive process. and assuming someday this WOT stuff blows over, and the smuggling is stopped at the source, the only people we'd still be blowing up, for decades, are completely innocent people.

I thought the Mines along the Korean border were permanent as the war is technically still not over.
Re: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran’s lies
^ demining has begun though.

Whether mine are inhumane or not, we have laws which people need to abide by... besides terrorists are exploiting those security holes to creep in and cause destruction within Pakistan.

thats a cop out. we also have the law of not allowing stealing, but police isnt allowed to shoot to kill a shoplifter.

theres many, many other ways to stop those terrorists, better intelligence gathering, surgical strikes, attacking their leaders. mining a whole area and disfiguring it for decades is a counterproductive and most likely ineffective route.

I agree, but fortunately "stealing" is not resulting in loss of so many lives.

That has been my "proposal" all this time, but seeing the "plans" army makes/follows this one ("mine") is likely to get "approved" and "implemented" and even likely to be "acceptable" to world at large.
Re: Mine the Afghan Border split from: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lie
^ right, but none of our "proposals" influence what the army does, but atleast they should be right in principle!
and between them coming from the border and them blowing themselves up there are a lot of steps in between. ideally somewhere in between lies the right way of nipping them that harms the fewest civilians.
Re: Mine the Afghan Border split from: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lie
^ use of intelligence without any compromise can be very effective but that will compromise friendships/relationships of many in army/ISI.
Re: Mine the Afghan Border [split from: The Myth of Afghan superiority + Imran's lie
so what are you saying that pakistan should sink to this low level? neither holes, nor walls nor mines will make a difference. only progression and development.
