Milk supply...

How many days after delivery the milk comes in and what the baby feeds on until the milk comes? I know about the colostrum but is it really enough for the baby for first few days?

Has anyone dealt with unsolicited advice on giving bottle in those early days when you were waiting for your milk to come in?

Re: Milk supply…

I think it was 2-3 days for me and until then it was just the colostrum and baby was fed just fine. No one told me to give bottle but that’s also because only my close family visited me in the hospital while we were there for 4 days. The hospital I gave birth at was all about breast milk and they wont give formula unless medically necessary or the motehr doesnt want to bf the baby. they wont even take him to the nursery unless I asked them to and will bring him back to me every 2-3 hours, milk or not.. I had to feed him

Re: Milk supply…

Colostrum is more than enough. A newborns stomach is as tiny as his fist- doesn’t take long to fill up.

Re: Milk supply…

Colostrum is enough, of course. It is the system that Allah SWT has given us. Unless there is some illness or latching issue for mom or baby, there’s no reason to add anything new.

For most women, it takes 2-3 days for your milk to come in. But it can take longer after csections, like 5-6 days. Speak to the lactation consultants, pediatricians, and doctors if you’re concerned for your child.

And yes, I’ve dealt with unsolicited advice. People are entitled to their opinions. You decide what you feel is best for your child.
