Did your parents ever tell you that you can get vitiligo (pale spots on skin) if you drink milk after fish?
I was told that all my life. I’m not sure if I believe it, but I WOULD NEVER drink milk after just in case.
I know its an idiopathic autoimmune disorder (that is we’re not sure about the a cause- we know its autoimmune though). Do any you have vitiligo? (it effects one percent of the population). Do you think it was caused by the milk-fish?
I ask this, because I’ve recently been seeing a lot of desis with this…
It doesn't have anything to do with milk and fish. Now there are some types of fish that may cause stomach indigestion if taken with milk due to protein interaction, but that't it. It doesn't cause spots or any such disorders.
Anyhow, my kids each fish a lot and drink milk right after. They are OK, no issues, even digestive. Same in my case.
I don't know specifically of any cases where the correlation between milk and fish has resulted in pigmentation disorders and neither has it been proven.
The milk/fish consumption rumour originates from Jewish belief. Strict Jewish observers do not mix the two during the same meal and tend to keep even the dishes they use for these two foodstuffs seperate. This is in accordance with Jewish dietary laws.
I think this stereotypes comes from the fact that during the fish's breeding season, they produce this chemical that causes vitiligo. Don't know about other countries but that's why Canada has banned fishing during summer months, i.e. their breeding season.
I don't eat fish because of the smell...and the way fish looks..i.e. before death/after death un cut..and when i do eat thora sa because my parents force me, then i don't drink milk or eat it with yogurt which is how i normally eat my food.
i've been told that too, i don't believe it since there's no scientific evidence for it, but i still dont want to take any risk. so i never drink milk/yoghurt with fish :)

There is a specific fish which is commonly used in Pakistani dish of fried fish. If you drink duud patti or direct milk? then you get vitiligo.
My meternal far-family relatives doughter got it for some reason after eating fish and having milk under 24 hours.
Thats why I never had fish nor direct milk. Even tought both are individually taken for certain strength.
I do love shrimps crabs and lobsters though...wo duud ke saath bhi mix kiye jaa saktay hain.
I was told not to take angRa'ee (stretch yourself) after eating werna sara khana tumhaaray pait se kuttay ke pait main chalaa jataa hai ..
I even remember sketching a picture of me strecthing myself and food from my tummy transfering to a dog's tummy in the form of a dotted line connecting both our tummies
