I am so fed up and so sick of hearing every bad thing blamed on our army these days. Guys when will you finally grasp the fact that these are the defenders of our nation. These are the guys who put their lives on risk to save the nation, not you or me sitting comfortably in our rooms before our computers.
I think the solution to stop this nonsense against the army is to make one year military service mandatory for every adult in Pakistan.
If not the military service, they must serve in civil service (hospitals, schools, etc etc.).
Only the guys who have served one year in civil service or the military will know their value. Only then they will know how hard it is to build the things and how easy it is to destroy them.
This concept is implemented everywhere in the west!
^Agreed! It would not only insure a healthy rotation of talented people in Armed services but empower people and allow them to see the intense responsibility that the Armed Forces have, hence increasing respect for them.

actually most of them are not even in Pakistan, so it doesn't make a difference to them. there are always Yankees to take control of the country when an army is dissolved. so I say, just get rid of army, once for all.
First of all, it was not until recently that the hatref of the armed forces has emerged, and it is due to the corrupt and power hungry top brass and not the entire army, not to mention the corrupt old bawa who has self imposed himself as the leader for life, along with the help of crooks like Chaudhries, Altaf etc.
Secondly, this isnt Israel, and this nation wasnt founded to be run by the army, and they cant do jack, let alone ask us to serve for one year. And yes, serving under the army for one year isnt going to really make us appreciate them anymore or any less. When was the last time these army people actually fight a war? Their lives arent as tough as you are making us believe they are. Also, we already have too many people in the army, not to mention the fact that its a huge strain on the economy and our future track should be to make peace with India and start disarming the two countries so that peoples lives will improve.
I think govt. should act now and hit hard on these rioters. Any guy caught in burning acts, must be forced to spend at least one year in that very area which he tried to destroy. If he is caught in torching an ambulance, he MUST work one year in the ambulance service.

Those rioters arent the only ones that hate the Pak Army now, theres alot of silent sane people, sitting peacefully in their homes that have developed this mistrust of the army thanks to Musharraf. Infact, the 80-90% who hate him, they arent particulary fond of the entire forces at this point, even though they arent to blame for musharrafs corruption and incompetence.

lets not confuse ANGER with HATE, shall we? NO true Pakistani HATES ARMY. a fraction of society is ANGRY with what happened yesterday. Though there some criminal elements, carrying out riots and robbing banks BEFORE setting them on fire. If there was any HATE for Army, it would have been evident after the deployment of Army in interior Sindh, which was and still is the power base of PPP.
Thats quite a plan! Too bad it has no basis in reality and is just as plausible as some fat guy in red suit climbing down my chimney and leaving me some presents. We all know India is armed to the teeth only because Pakistan is its main threat
Look here…no one likes war and conflicts. If this was an ideal world, there would be no army and our governments would be composed of politicians who truly represent the sentiments of the people. However, that is not the case and this is exactly why we have to rely on the military.

I dont understand your logic. Pakistan and Israel are the only countries in this world which were founded on the basis of religion. And we are facing more challenges now than Israel ever did. I know there are many crooks in the army, but then they are in every institution, everywhere in the world.

Education, health care etc are very important but safety comes first.
By blaming our army for everything you are just falling into the trap our enemies have so carefully put to destabilize Pakistan.

I understand where you are coming from but lets be honest here, under the current geo-political situation cutting down the Army will have a disastrous effect, civil authorities are just not enough or equipped to deal with these religious fanatics, or are they? the dilemma is that there is no DIPLOMATIC way either, we just can't let these morons take over.

India already has a MUCH superior army, larger in both strength, numbers. There is no way we can take them in a conventional battle, but its the nukes that provide the balance of power, not these soldiers.

I never blamed them, I blamed Musharraf, read my posts again, but that is the reality, the anti-army sentiments in people are only because they are now tired of seeing corrupt generals take over the country and become leaders for life.
