KHYBER AGENCY: Militants launched a major attack on a security forces’ fort in the Landi Kotal area late on Thursday night.
The attack comes one day after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) revoked the 40-day-long ceasefire.
Official sources said that it appeared that the militants had targeted a weapons depot in the region. Several explosions were heard as the militants continued to fire bullet rounds and rockets from the adjoining mountains.
The tribesmen in the region said that the militants fired rockets and mortars at the fort, which caused huge explosions to be heard in the vicinity. Some of the locals added that they had seen flames rising high from the fort.
Some sources also said that the militants launched the attack from four sides. There were also reports that some suicide bombers were among the attackers whose number is unknown.
The security forces also returned the fire and targeted the militants’ positions with mortars and artillery rounds.
The damage to the premises of the fort and the number of human casualties could not be ascertained independently due to the media not having any access to fort’s interior.
No official version of the incident has been issued by the security forces.
Re: Militants launch huge attack on Landi Kotal FC fort
Military Spokesperson has denied the news of an attack by militants. it was an accidental fire that caused some 50 big N small explosions. no casualties.
Re: Militants launch huge attack on Landi Kotal FC fort
Thank you for sharing this information Khalil KhaaN FaaKhta. It is quite interesting to know how this news report came about. Would you please post the source of the Military Spokesperson's statement here (ISPR?), it would be important for everyone to know this.
Re: Militants launch huge attack on Landi Kotal FC fort
Dunya News just reported that, according to ISPR, the fire started due to electrical short circuiting in which a woman and a child were injured. however, Abdullah Azam Brigade has claimed responsibility and has threatened further attacks on military installations.
Re: Militants launch huge attack on Landi Kotal FC fort
yeah but ISPR has denied the attack happened. they claim the fire was caused due to electrical short circuiting.
never heard the name of this Azaam Brigade before. to me, the claim sounds fake/untrue. one of the groups had earlier also claimed the responsibility of blast at Islamabad SabzimanDii…turned out to be a false claim as, according to Chowdhury Nisar saab, the bombs originated in a guava orchard in Southern Punjab.
wallaho 'aalam bissawaab.
the perpetrators of the earlier bomb blasts need to be caught N punished.
Re: Militants launch huge attack on Landi Kotal FC fort
how can bomb originate in a guava orchard? guavas originate in orchard.
lolz...they were put in the guava crates during packing and then transported to the manDii...ab "KILL-YAAR" ho gayaa? :D
