To be honest I think heavy kaam wqale kapre look OTT. Wear something nice and simple, it's not a wedding remember :p There's nothing wrong in wearing makeup, it makes us look butiphool :@:
just wear something that makes you look fresh.
jewellery and mehndi are great.......some people treat it just like Eid.
in our family we are discouraged from making a big deal out of this day because there is no history of our beloved prophet s.a.w. giving significance to birthdays etc. so we don't but I have been to milaads and celebrations and it is just like Eid.

nowhere in the history was ever prophet Mohammed's (SAW) birthday celebrated.....have we ever read of sahabas(RA) celebrating our beloved prophet's (SAW) birthday?we have become used to glamorizing everything....infact so many religious scholars condemn celebrating birthdays as it is a celebration started by kaafirs and remember that on the day of qayamah we would be raised along with those who we have imitated.
I'm no scholar here and I apologize if I step on any toes, but there are only 2 Eids in Islam, Eid ul Fitr and Eid ul Adha (BakraEid). Also, the exact day of the Prophet's (saw) birthday is unknown. We are encouraged to recite durood throughout the year and much of what is practiced during milads is considered biddah by Hanafi scholars. The Prophet discouraged celebrating birthdays and even his.
Having said that, if there are gatherings during this month, just be well dressed as always but not like the 2 Eids where we go all out to make new clothes etc.
