California’s battle over Prop 8 – a ballot proposition that added a section to the state’s constitution stating that “only a marriage between a man and a woman is recognized or valid in California” – has been contentious, to say the least. So, it’s nice to see something like this new Devin and Glenn video, which shows that some people can disagree but still have a sense of humor about it.
The clip stars Mike White and Justin Long and opens with text stating “to the 44% of Californians who believe homosexuals should not be allowed to marry, we offer the following perspective,” before launching in to a story of two newly married men. We see White and Long as fresh-faced newlyweds on their honeymoon, moving into their new home together, and cuddling while watching TV. Soon, though, things start to change – the two sit apart on the couch, when White mentions he’s going to the gym Long overreacts, Long starts watching porn … you know the drill.
The humorous point of the piece is why would you spare homosexuals from a lifetime of wedded torture? Isn’t Prop 8 really doing gay couples a favor, by sparing them from the long, slow spiral into marital apathy? It’s all very tongue-in-cheek, of course, but it’s still pretty amusing regardless of which side of the issue you find yourself on.
