Migration of people during partition of India

Isnt it true that the migration of millions of Muslims from present day India was forced because of riots and that only those people left for the new country Pakistan of their choice voluntarily who had cushy jobs or guaranteed futures. If there were no riots and fear of staying as a minority there would have been many Hindus and Sikhs in Pakistan and many Muslims would have stayed back in India.

Re: Migration of people during partition of India

Majority of educated muslims and rich families from riot torn Northern part of India moved to pakistan. Poor and uneducated were left behind. My great grand father with his whole family was about to board the ship in Bombay to move to Pakistan but at the last moment he changed his mind and stayed back.

As for my community, which lived in six or seven small towns in Gujrat, half of these towns were governed by a Muslim King (Junagadh state) while other half of these towns were ruled by a Hindu king (Gondal state). When Junagadh King declared his state to be a part of Pakistan then Hindu population conducted large scale riots and the whole muslim mass in these areas fled to Pakistan leaving their flourishing businesses and properties. The muslims in these riot affected areas were the richest people in the whole subcontinent. The other half of my community which lived under Hindu king remained unaffected and majority of them (including my family) preferred to stay back.

Re: Migration of people during partition of India

In Eastern Punjab, in my village and sorrounding regions, there is not a single muslim family left.
I have been told that our region had a good population of muslims and my grandfather could read and write urdu.

I come from the hoshiarpur district of punjab and that is only about 50 miles from the pakistan border, so it was relatively easy for the population to migrate.

Re: Migration of people during partition of India

what is the point in discussing this now??..neways..upper castes were killing upper castes(aryans) during that time. what goes around, comes around.

Re: Migration of people during partition of India

There should be a population exchange between india and Pakistan. Muslims for non-muslims just like Jinnah wanted

Re: Migration of people during partition of India

Chalo chorro pai jaan!! We can’t get accepted pakistanis [yes by bhutto qauls] from bangladesh from their rotten camps and you want this :omg:

PS Btw, do we have that many non-muslims to do an “exchange” :faizy:

Re: Migration of people during partition of India
