microsoft word margins

I’m typing up this paper for class, and I started messing with the settings to make the paper seem as if it met the standards of a minimum of 3 pages. :smack: It’s like ALMOST 3 pages, so i was trying to change the margins to make it a complete 3 pages so i wouldn’t get points taken off :mudhosh:.

ANYWAYS, so then I noticed that my teacher was one step ahead of me, and he had written at the bottom of the assignment sheet that the margins were not to be changed and they had to be the MS word default setting page margins.

So, now that I’ve screwed with the margins, i can’t remember what the default settings were, because even when i try to open a new page, the page margins are still at what i screwed them up to be…:bummer:

so can somebody plz tell me the default page margin settings for MS word…
top, bottom, left, and right?

:konfused: thanks in advance to any of those who understood what the hell i just typed :smack:

Re: microsoft word margins

Some systems have 1 inch margin on all sides while some have 1 for top and bottom and 1.25 for sides.

So basically you can go with 1 on all sides as it'll allow you to fit more on one page and if your teacher objects, tell him that that's your computer's default margins, and it's true.

Re: microsoft word margins

^^ "some systems" ?!?! what's that supposed to mean?!

Re: microsoft word margins

Actually what I meant to say is that some versions of MS word.

For example, I have XP at home and MS word 2000 , defaults are 1 inch top bottom and 1.25 for sides. Windows 2000 is installed on my university computers and I think it has word 2003 or newer, and the default margins for that are 1 inch on all sides.

Re: microsoft word margins

Ok what is it for MS word 200 on xp?

Re: microsoft word margins

1 for top and bottom, 1.25 for sides :frusty:

Like I said before, even if you make it 1 on each side, he won’t deduct points (at least he shouldn’t) because that’s default on many versions.

Re: microsoft word margins

hey mine is 2.54cm on top and bottom

and 3.17cm from the left and right. :bummer:

did I also change them when writing my 2000 word essay  I cant remember :bummer:

Re: microsoft word margins

no no noooo..but wouldn’t i want to make the margins LARGER so then the words would “smush” down and take up more room, making it look like i wrote a full 3 pages? :konfused:

Re: microsoft word margins

They should be default if you open a new document. If they are not, just restart the system and they should then go back to default.

Phatima if you are not understanding what I am saying, open up word, go to margins window, while you push the up and down arrows to increase/decrease margins, you'll see what each setting does. But having a bigger margin means less text on that page. Having a smaller margin means more text.

Re: microsoft word margins

what?! dude your numbers are like wayyyy off :smack: it couldn’t have been a number that random. :smack: You Brits are all so off key.

Re: microsoft word margins

I knoww :smack: that’s the thinggg.. i accidentally changed the default settingssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss…:bummer:

Re: microsoft word margins

Computers... They're so dumb!!!

Re: microsoft word margins

learn to delegate your work :smokin:

Re: microsoft word margins

yea yea, i have less text on the page, and i need to take up MORE space…ok aight thankyou berry much

i guess i’ll just have to add a few extra lines right after the title and change the font to “12.5” to make up for the extra space. :disgust:

Re: microsoft word margins

Do the conversion, Genius. That’s 1" X 1.25" :hehe:

Re: microsoft word margins

we dont get told off for having the wrong margins…I usually have to make my margins smaller…cuz if an essay is 2000 words…I write about 3500. no joke this is wot I did for my last one. :hehe: so I have to make my essay look smaller than it actually is.

Re: microsoft word margins

It has served its purpose.
