Trust me they are being let go. Browett’s firing is effective immediately while Forestall will act as an “advisor” to Tim Cook for a year for obvious reason. They can’t have him join Google, or Samsung right away while he has knowledge of future products and technologies. He is not head of IOS anymore and he is not getting any updates regarding the projects from now on.
