Microsoft Sus Server

Hi!

Can anyone knowz abt MS SUS Server? what the procedure to install & configure it?
what are its advantages?

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

SUS server will provide centralized management for all windows patches... there is an upgrade to SUS called WSUS, which manages all Microsoft patches (office, sql, windows)

its very neat...

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

Genius is right… WSUS is really neat and handy..

We are about 4500 computers and servers through it. and its working great, giving good results..

any information regarding that could be found out at http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserversystem/updateservices/default.mspx

then these are the bst forums I have found http://msmvps.com/athif/archive/2005/05/05/45740.aspx

thanks for the forums CB :k:

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

^ This is the official MS supported newsgroup for WSUS

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2003/community/newsgroups/dgbrowser/en-us/default.mspx?dg=microsoft.public.windows.server.update_services

WSUS is a much improved tool over SUS. It has its quirks but it works. I am fighting some problems with Windows Installer 3.1 updates and errors related to LIS (Location Installation Source) for Office Service packs…basically make sure that install point for the orginal office installation is available when the patch/update/sp is pushed to the client or insatllation will fail.

There is another tool MS has put out that lets you scan computers/servers on the network for missing security bulletins. Here is the url,

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

^ i get a warning for Office 2003 service packs ... that it won't install cuz it requires user intervention... do u get that too

p.s. thanks for the links

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

Mr. G, no I do not receive that warning. Is that when you approve the update through WSUS console or at the client at insatll time?

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

when i approve the update on console...

i m looking into it... let me know if you were able to install office updates thru WSUS to clients...

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

^^ permissions problem tha D:\WSUS\WsusContent folder ka... downloads are working now

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

Dude you have downloaded the whole multinlingual metadata? Holy ....you had some bandwidth and disk space to burn. :D

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

hehe.. i started and it was taking some time.. i cancelled the download rite way.... wats the size anyway for that... ?

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

Multilingual metadat is over 30 GB, unless you have a 100 MB connection to the Internet, I would not even think about it. English only version of metadat is 6 GB. It took me about 4 hours to get the WSUS server synchronized with MS update site. i of course have a 100 MB connection to the internet :D

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

30GB

i got 100MB:) … but not to waste on the metadata…

hey, i m just curious… wats the size of your WSUSContent Directory

Re: Microsoft Sus Server

My content directory is about 6 gb as indicated by the above post.

Re: Microsoft Sus Server
