Microsoft always had upper hand in marketing their products. Their products are hit even well before their launch as every one is talking about them in all sorts of media related with IT. The marketing of Longhorn, Microsoft’s new OS, was started a couple of years back and as with all MS products it is known to every targeted person for some time now even it is yet to release in final version. But this time MS may face some troubles due to their advance marketing strategies.
In Pakistan Government had managed to achieve such a level of education and technical expertise that Longhorn is more awaited here than at any other place. It is not just the IT sector that is waiting for it, but truck and bus drivers are as keen in having one personal copy as any other person. They think Longhorn will replace all other traditional horns and since it is developed by Microsoft it will provide some compatibility with old one too. When Musharaf met with Bill Gates some time back, truck and bus drivers thanked him well before IT personnel for showing interest in Longhorn. One of my friend bet with people that Musharaf was very surprised to know that Longhorn is not another horn but a newer version of XP and he was worried how he will handle those truck and bus drivers who were promised to be the very first to have Longhorn in their vehicles.
Furthermore, my friend insists that just to keep truck and bus drivers’ calm, the government of Pakistan has requested Microsoft to actually develop a horn but name it as Shorthorn. This will not just be another OS from Microsoft, but it will be a horn that will replace traditional horns.
ammarr bhai, hats were never as famous here in Pakistan as were people wearing them, like Clint Eastwood in his spaghetti Western roles. Also Redhat was a high-quality hat but it was never marketed well.
Genius Bhai, my friend’s client still used windows 3.1 workstation as he loved it and in his opinion win95 and the rest are just garbage. My friend had to visit “downtown” of Lahore to find a copy of Windows 3.1. He noticed that there were more horns than Windows and he was amused to find such a place in an era dominated by MS. Even he was going to email Gates that there are still areas on this globe where Windows is not the most abundant thing. Then he researched a bit and discovered that Microsoft had named their new OS as Longhorn to fool people living in down-town mainly truck and bus drivers, but Musharraf will not let MS go for it and he is going to demand Shorthorn.
As always, people living in downtown of Lahore seem once again to have suffered from false-claims of politicians and business-icons. This time it was not a street light or a broken telephone cable, but instead a high-tech fraud. They were fooled by Microsoft with Longhorn, and Musharaf was believed to have promised them that MS will deliver a horn.
As of the latest, Microsoft has gone instead to rename Longhorn to Windows-Vista. (Source: http://www.paklinks.com/gs/showthread.php?t=188613)
This definitely means that MS will not be interested any more in any sort of horns, including Shorthorn. At least MS must have published a statement of excuse for people in downtown of Lahore. Even Musharaf is not expected any more to help them with it.
Microsoft claim to have a better vision, but not this time as is obvious from following quote.
