Microsoft introduces Windows Phone 8, offers a 'shared core' with Windows 8

It’s now just Windows Phone 8 and, at their “sneak peek” event](Live from Microsoft's 'sneak peek' at Windows Phone!) we’re learning a good bit about that OS, most notably that it contains a “shared core” with Windows 8! The idea here is that a common core makes life easier for developers and, therefore, better for consumers too.
This means multi-core chips, up to and including 64 cores! Also, the work they’ve been doing means “multi-core first” – in other words, Windows Phone 8 will be focused on multi-core device, not single-core. Two new resolutions will also be supported: 720p and WXGA – still no 1080p, though!
