I agree to what you said about the use and configure. Take resumes for instance, I've posted job openings and I get so scared when emails start pouring in. The best way would be to scan them quickly but the format in each greatly changes so its not easy to train the eye to adjust between formats and then take in the data. Resumes from Monster come in in similar format but they are soooo ugly and unreadable.
On the other hand this would be like school uniform, or the unisex garb of the Chinese. "Don't judge the book by its cover" philosophy!! :)
