Microformats

Just want to see how many of you use these on a personal basis, and whether your organization mandates their use for things like vcards and résumés.

Re: Microformats

i dont even know what that is

Re: Microformats

^ looks like you're not the only one Esix :D

Re: Microformats

some admit it a lot faster :)

I just did some reading and looks to me like it has lots of potential. LC, have u started using it? or just in the initial research?

Re: Microformats

^ Tofi, I've used the hresume microformat before, but had really forgotten about them for the past couple of years... however, in a recent conversation with a couple of mobile developers, I was told that microformats are making a comeback in a huge way.

Re: Microformats

LC, from all the reading that I've done I've gathered it appears that its various documents with a specified format so everything is being compared exactly alike?

Then I would take it to be like the documents that Franchisors provide. In the US when you are trying to compare between mutiple fanchises, e.g. Subway or Quiznos, you get exactly the same kind of reports by those 2 franchisors. This is ofcourse regulated by a governing body, FTC. The document is called the FDD (Franchise Disclosure Document).

Re: Microformats

^ yeah in my mind I make comparisons to the mechanisms for EDI to ensure consistency in format of documents with certain types of data.

However, in my own mind, I had discounted the idea of microformats because I thought XML pretty much takes care of this anyways for organizations and eventually well see standards organizations come up with XML based conventions for specific industries and use cases. However, microformats are certainly easier to use and configure, and that's what I'm being told is the main reason they're gathering more mass appeal from businesses who just want things to be simple and quick.

Re: Microformats

I agree to what you said about the use and configure. Take resumes for instance, I've posted job openings and I get so scared when emails start pouring in. The best way would be to scan them quickly but the format in each greatly changes so its not easy to train the eye to adjust between formats and then take in the data. Resumes from Monster come in in similar format but they are soooo ugly and unreadable.

On the other hand this would be like school uniform, or the unisex garb of the Chinese. "Don't judge the book by its cover" philosophy!! :)
