Microdermabrision

It helps with fine lines and wrinkles, age spots and acne scars… leaves your skin feeling really smooth and soft. Suitable for all skin types and colors.. how many of you have tried it?

Liked it?

Hated it?

No difference?

What’s your verdict on microdermabrasions?

I didn’t try the Microdermabrasion performed with a machine of some sort but I did try OLAY’s Regenerist Microdermabrasion System

Absolutely love it! Leaves ur skin feeling soooooooo soft!! And removes some of the blackheads too. Ur skin feels really smooth, but be sure to put a sun cream before going out after u use this, coz it does peel off the dead skin layer so ur skin becomes more sensitive to the UV radiation.

Never irritated me, never had any side effects. Its a good investment :k:

Re: Microdermabrision

SUCKS!!!! I got it done from hurwitz Plastic Surgery Center in Pittsburgh and it made NOOO difference. Then i switched to Skin Medica's Vitalize peel which is awessssome. I have had two treatments done and already my sun spots are less noticable. the only problem is that it makes you peel so get it done on a tuesday (I began peeling on thrusday, friday it started getting bad, saturday and sunday i was shedding skin like a snake and monday VOLA, had lovely new skin)

Re: Microdermabrision

I've done it from a good place. Of course i didn't do the whole course so I really couldn't see any difference. Heard the course is pretty good. But I got it done one time and the person who was doing it said you really don't need this since your skin is good as it is. Next time I went, I got deep pore facial.
Its somewhat painful :(

Had it done a few years ago, saw no difference whatsoever, never had it done since.

Where do you get this and how much does it cost?

^ it depends where you get it done from. I was at a project in Harrisburg and went to :

Dr. James A. Yates Plastic Surgery Center Ltd - Plastic Surgery Harrisburg, PA | Plastic Surgery Center, LTD.
205 Grandview Avenue, Camp Hill - (717) 763-7814
Debbie Yates does the peel. She charged me $160 for the vitalize peel. I didn’t think she was too great at it, but since the product is so amazing, the results were great.

I also went to:

David Amato MD
David Amato MD, 845 Sir Thomas Ct Ste 1
Harrisburg, PA 17109
tel: (717)541-1222
These folks charged me $130 for the face AND neck. I liked the esthetician better at this place as compared to James. Again, great results.

In Pittsburgh I went to:
Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery
3109 Forbes Avenue
Pittsburgh, PA 15213-3012

The Esthetician is REALLY good. Her name is molly wagner and she’s well known in the community. She did an indepth consultation with me and recommended the vitalize peel and told me to get it on a tuesday. She went over the entire cycle of peeling in great detail like none of the others did. I don’t recall what I paid her for the peel, but I got the illuminating peel from her (also from skin medica) only because at that time I was scared to try the vitalize peel. Illuminating peel, doesn’t really do much, so don’t waste your money on it. I plan on returning to her for a vitalize peel, but it’s difficult to get an appointment with her coz she is solid booked. I strongly recommend her for first time consultations

Re: Microdermabrision

OK, I thought they were home kits :smack: Thanks.

well… I know there are power sellers with 99% ratings that sell this stuff too, but i would get it done professionally once to see how it works before doing it yourself. I haven’t been brave enough to do it myself

One such seller is greatskin4u2. He/She has a 99.8% rating based on 8800 reviews. you might wanna check it out.

this sounds expensive :/
but i've been meaning to try the olay kit

gina, i had pretty good skin but for the past 6-7 months i had an acne flare up on my one cheek and forehead

i tried to get rid of it(lots of water, and baby-ing my skin, nothing expensive just drugstore items :/)
now alhamdulillah its almost under control (im thinking its more related to some internal problem but i've putting off going to the doc :/)

but now im left with red/brown marks
they are not raised or dent like(ice pick marks?) they are even.
do you think some at home peel kit will help?

Start-off with a very mild one plain, it will take time but they'll fade away Inshallah :)

thank you gina
for your fast replies, patience and the knowledge you share with us here :)
were you refering to the salon treatments?(when you said start off with a mild one)
or do u think i should get the olay microderm kit? cos the salon procedures seem a bit expensive for me at the moment?
and my skin is normal to dry, not oily and most of the acne treatments in markets are targeted towards oily skin

You are welcome :)

No, I meant the home-kits and cleansers. Buy a cleanser with a small percentage of glycolic acid in it.. start-off with 10% and work your way up.

Oil of Olay and Neutrogena both make excellent 'at-home' microderm kits.

Had it done a few times at my aesthetician. I hadn't heard about this technique at that time and when she told me that it would help me in fading the acne scars as well as getting less frequent and severe break-outs, I thought I'd give it a try.

Yes, it did make my skin look and feel smoother and more glowing, it did zilch for my acne break-outs or scars. The procedure did cost me quite a bomb though.

I've been getting much, much better results from using retinol, tazorac, and AHA/BHA products than microdermabrasion at a much less cost.

Re: Microdermabrision

I had it once along with a glycolic peel, didn't work at all and itched like mad whilst the girl was doing it.. total waste of money, much prefer tca..

I didn't get it done for any scars, just exfoliation. I loved it! Skin feels super-soft and leaves no dry area's..
