If a majority of the players have problems with Miandad it would not be advisable to put him as coach. It will be the same scence that happened before and after thr world cup. Nobody seemed to have a problem with Waqar being the captain but now that we performed badyl it comes out seniors didnt want him to be the captain to begin with. Same goes for the coach, if players are not going to along with Javed there is nothing he can do about it.
If Miandad becomes the captain, I'll tell you there will be huge improvements in the Pakistani team, starting with the batting, it will change drastically.
Miandad shows willingness to serve as Pakistan coach
By Waheed Khan
KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test captain and coach Javed Miandad has said he is willing to take up any assignment in the near future in the interest of the nation and Pakistan cricket team.
The 44 year-old said that as always if the Pakistan Cricket Board offered him any position with the Pakistan team he would not refuse it.
“In the past also I have always been there for the interest of Pakistan cricket and the nation. I had also offered my services voluntarily to the Pakistan team in the recent past,” he said.
Miandad said that anyone who knew him as a person and cricketer knew well how strongly he felt about serving Pakistan cricket.
“Pakistan has given me a lot and if I can repay in some way I would be glad to do it,” added the master batsman who is tipped to take over as the new coach of the senior team.
Miandad in the past has also twice remained coach of the senior team but on both occasions was forced to leave after differences with senior players.
He was, however, adamant that the time had come for the PCB to take some tough decisions and start the rebuilding process.
“I want to make it clear today our fringe players are in the age groups of 23 and 25 and they need to be given a chance now so that we can start preparing a team for the next World Cup. If we miss this opportunity then we will be left depending only on our under-19 players,” he warned.
Appreciating the services rendered by the senior players for the Pakistan team, Miandad, however, insisted that there was a time for every great player to go but in Pakistan there was no such tradition.
“I think it is up to the Board now to take some strong decisions and decide what they want to do. I would go for a rebuilding process.”
Miandad, however, refused to blame captain Waqar Younis for the poor World Cup performance saying that no captain can do anything when the batsmen don’t put the runs on the board and the bowlers also fail to take wickets regularly.
“These were the best players we had selected for the World Cup. They were the best and they didn’t come off. But it is all over now. We should look towards the future on long term basis.”
Interestingly another former Pakistan skipper Asif Iqbal while appreciating Miandad’s fighting qualities as a cricketer and his contribution to the team nonetheless felt past experiences had shown he lacked man management qualities which were so important for a coach and manager.
Javed Miandad wants the coaching job more than anything else, in his interview on Prime TV months back where he said he will join the anytime if he is asked.
Miandad, as ever right on the money. Interestin’ points he made:
Didn’t blame only Waqar but team as a whole.
Wants to rebuild the whole team.
Prefers young players ages b/w 23-25 for the next World Cup, which means Afridi ka Patha abhi thak nahi kata. He would be glad to hear that.
Being twice Coach of the team, Miandad was forced to resign because of differences with Senior players. Good part, he didn’t mention players name and urged PCB to take strong decisions in order to get out of this mess!
Ready to give his service to the team because Pakistan has given everything he needed, accordin’ to him.
