Miandad signs contract with PCB – finally
: Pakistan coach Javed Miandad finally signed the coaching contract offered to him by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) before leaving with the senior team for England on Thursday.
The former Test captain put his signature on the dotted lines of a lucrative contract after being told by the Board that for audit purposes it had become neccessary for him to sign the contract before leaving for England.
A PCB source said that the contract was handed over to Miandad on Wednesday in Rawalpindi where the team has assembled for a reception hosted by the Board Chairman Lt. General Tauqir Zia.
“He has been asked to sign and return the contract to the Board before he left for England Thursday morning,” the source confirmed.
He said that it had become important for Miandad to sign the contract for audit reasons required by the Board auditors. “The matter could not be delayed any longer,” he added.
Miandad went with the team to Sharjah and Sri Lanka in April and May without signing the contract and the matter was said to be in limbo because of difference of opinion on the monetary rewards to be given to Miandad for his two-year coaching contract.
Though Miandad himself denied that he had not signed the contract because of problems over the monetary aspect of his contract but Board sources confirmed this was the main reason for his not signing the contract. According to sources Miandad will earn approximately 10 million per year including a monthly salary of $8000 US.
“Miandad was not been pushed to sign the contract because he knew when ever he did sign it the contract would be valid from the date he took over as Pakistan coach and he would receive all back dated payments,” the source added.
