Miandad as a Coach ?

I want to post this before the third test ends. I do not want people thinking that I am posting this due to the result of the third test.

Now the question what would you have to say about our coach? How would you rate his performance? Could you feel his presence and his influence on the team and the team strategy? Did you see team strategy?
How would you compare him to Dav Watmore ? Given the resources to both the coaches who do you think utilized them better?

Being a batsmen himself and Pakistan’s batting struggling through out the series what are your views ? Let us also keep in mind that most of the players are young players who have the stamp of approval of Miandad. He had his problems with the seniors but now are the youngsters also not listening to him ? that is if he has something to say ?

I think because of the rapid changes there is no set combination. If there is no combination, how can we have a strategy (unless our strategy is to surprise the opponents by playing a new team in every match :) ).

Secondly, the new guys have not spent anytime with Miandad to get proper training and coaching. Probably the debutants would have met him for the first time just a couple of days before the test match. So what can Miandad impart to them.

If you compare the BDesh squad of WC 2003 and the squad of today, there is a marked improvement. Pakistan, on the other hand, are still "rebuilding". It would be interesting to find out how many changes did BDesh did after WC 2003 and how many changes did Pak did after the WC. So the answer does not lie in coaching alone. It has something to do with building the right combination and being consistent. Unfortunately our selectors and higher-ups don't believe in either.

I agree to some extent with WitchDoctor but there are players who have been playing on a regualr basis since Miandad became the coach and there isnt a whole lot of improvement in them either.

Taufeeq Umar is one prime example. He was dropped due to the same reason at one point as Amir Sohial said he was getting out in similar fashion and that he has some flaws in his techinque. I dont think Taufeeq has improved. He has been living on thje edge for a while now. He has been with the team for a while now and his scoring consistency leaves a lot to be desired. Every time he is about to get dumped he playes one or two good innings and thats it.

Youhana has not been in a very good form for some time now. Yes, he scores 30-40 every now and then. But he is a much better player then that. Ever since this rebuilding process has started the only person who has performed consistently is Shoaib Malik, and even he has not proved him self as far as Test cricket is concerned.

I have wondered at times if Miandad is the right choice for coach. There seems to be some kind of mentle thing with PCB. I dont think every great player can also turn to be a great coach. First of all Miandad as a batsman was never the most correct batsman technically. He batting style was very unorthodox. How can he correct people's mistkes if he himself never played that way. I mean the basis of his selection was that he will guide youngsters from his experience but how can he if he doesnt have any experience of playing that way. Miadad himself was a very gifted batsman with a terrafic hand and eye cordination. It didnt really matter if he played orthodox shots or not. Now, not every players is that gifted or talented.

Best of luck to Pakistan cricket in the future but I think we need to start an acadmey of some kind to bring quality coaches. Prosffesionals who are trained to coach. It doesnt have to consist of former cricketers.

With idiot illiterate non-professional desis at the helm, I sometimes wonder why the hell do I even follow this cricket team?. Just because it has the tag "Pakistan" hanging on it's butt?. I swear, these guys are all so power/ego hungry with very narrow minds that they will never make the RIGHT decision. PCB sucks, the selection committe sucks and the professional attitude of the team sucks. Why am I even following these losers.

I don't care if they replace the whole management and re-build the damn team... as long as they don't act professionally, they will never win. It's really not about winning and losing but the way they go about things is just out of whack.

phewwwwwwwwww... I feel much better now

Javed Miandad's coaching ability can only be questioned when we have a small number of squad for some time. For past few months we have been changing so many openers and middle orders that it is hard to analyse if Javed had any impact on those batsmen. I am sure once we settle with smaller number of players to select Javed will help the batsmen more effectively.

Javed Miandad was a great batsman but he can't teach shiit now. I bet he is saying this to the batsmen, "aap thola saa wickit per rook ker khailni ki kosis karo. jub gaind off istump sai baahir ho tau fising kernay ki zarooret naee. kitni baali aap ko sumjhaaya hay k batting kertey waqt dimaagh may ganday ganday khayaalaat naa socha kalo. ball per cherh ker khailo naa k Reema per."

:topic: Its better to point at his technical mistakes than getting personal.

:hehe:

Pakistani Tiger would love this

Hahahah :hehe::rotfl::hehe:

lollllll :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

As rightly pointed out by Lahori Munda, Miandad had technical flaws in his batting. Yet he went on to create a number of world records and was a backbone for Pakistani batting for about 2 decades. This shows that he was a good planner and capitalized on whatever talent that he had and improved upon his deficiencies. Otherwise the bowlers of his era would have not allowed him to survive for this long. Basically, this is what we need right now. We have good talent but they are not properly groomed and are not mentally trained either. Maybe, Javed is not the best technically correct coach, but he can play "some" role in grooming the youngsters just the way he did it for himself.

One cant question the abilities of Javed as a coach specially on the basis og PAK-BD series. As Rashid said in the conference that he and Javed gets only 5 days to teach a youngster and then selection committe includes another 2/3 test cap players and they have have to start from 0.

Its all the selection committees fault that they are bringing in a new youngster in every match, how does the coach works with a youngsters, if he is only there for a short limited time.
For a young batsman to be groomed properly, he must be trained with the coach for a proper amount of time.

Yes I agree that Miandad probably did not have enough time to groom the new comers. But what I was asking if there is an over all team strategy that is apparent since Miandad has taken over?
How long has Dave Watmore taken over Bangladesh ? Were we able to feel the presence of Dave Watmore in Bngladesh’s approach to the game, especially in the tests?

I was asking about the over all approach to the game. For example slow over rate and specially extras has been the problem with the bowlers for a long time. Is Miandad doing something about it ?

Miandad himself was a player that would pace his innings with initially working on the singles and was well known for his running between the wickets but I feel Pakistan could improve in this area, with the exception of Youhana …

Another area is Gul and Shabir’s ability to bowl to left handed players. Gul specifically is not comfortable bowling around the wicket and with SA having Kerstin and Smith I would really like to see if they have improved in this area.

Btw in the view of a member of the 92 WC squad,[we meet in one of gathering and started to chit chat…] Miandad is not a good coach because he forces every one to play and do things like he used to. In his view all players have strengths and weakness and you need to work on them rather try to make them a carbon copy of Miandad. Just because Miandad could do something in a certain way does not mean every one can do it . If it was so easy we would have so many Miandads

paindoo, almost every teacher/coach will tell his students to follow his way, it would be very difficult to teach something you don't know or are not expert of. may be Miandad's technic was too difficult for others to adapt or may be Miandad's approach to teach the technic was not good enough. if you had noticed in Sharjah cup and other ODI games that followed you would have noticed how our batsmen played slowly keeping their wickets in first 15-25 overs then speed up their innings... thats Miandad's approach to batting.

I am not sure what he can do to stop bowlers from bowling wides/no-balls, it should be more of practice for bowlers themselves.

whats goin on.....a national coach training a player, correcting his technique once the payer is in the national side.

What the **** is the domestic circuit for....players should be trained there, there techniques should be sorted out over there...not when they are in the national side. Its the academies and and the domestic coaches who should take over this job.

damm....we got such a ****ed up system....
