what is istikhara?

yes it can be done by any one but the concern person should do himself.

two rakat namaz nafil for istikhara and then the masnoon dua.

for important decisions should be more then once.

after doing it u don't regret ur decision.

Just a general question - isn't Istikahara for shadi, done in the same process as istikhara for any other issue? Except of course, the difference is in the words you say in the istikhara dua. But the actions and everything else are the same - right ?

Yes it is same........

and for the orginal question ......why istikhara is needd for tim eof marriage...i always thougt it is used for selction purposes in shadi........if it is due to badshagooni sort of thing ...there is no such thing in islam ...

can u plz explain this .......

(1) One can do istikhara for any valid purpose.
(2) It is NOT valid if elderly opinions are present. (e.g Istikhara is not valid for a boy who parents already have decided something for him). In other words he cant deny the orders of his elders on the base of istikhara.

istiKhaara sunnat hai magar uske liye pahle hamaarii zindagiyaaN Allah ke faraaiz se kotaah na hoN tabhii iskaa kuchh faaida hai varna sab bekaar...agar Allah ham se naaraaz hai k ham uske farz adaa nahiiN karte to uskii Khushnoodii kaise Haasil kar sakte haiN? maiN aapko le kar nahiiN kah rahaa magar yeh dekhaa gayaa hai k aam taur par log faraiz poore nahiiN karte magar sunnat kii adaayegii ke liye koshaaN rahte haiN...yaad rahe k pahle farz phir sunnat! **farz nahiiN to sunnat kii koi ahmiyat nahiiN.**
