Met Wasim Akram the other day...

Recently there was a party hosted by ESPN/Star sports in Bangalore, India and had the privelege of meeting Wasim Akram and Sanjay Manjrekar. Wasim seems to be a very nice guy who is very down to earth. All kinds of questions were thrown to him at the party…

One thing that actually amazed me was his memory. He remember very factual details about many matches. That is truly brilliant. He would have played atleast 1000 matches in his lifetime and to think that he remembers the details of so many matches..

Question for you guys.

If you ever played cricket do you remember the details about the matches and what is the one incident that you vividly remember

For me, I have hardly played cricket and I remember some of the matches that I have played.

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

may be he is in commentary business that is why he not only remembers matches he played but other matches too.

You are a lucky dude :) Wasim Akram is one of my all time favorite cricketers...

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

I do actually remember details of matches I played. Well i shld say most of the matches i played.

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

So many Indian fans of Wasim Akram....lol

Btw I never liked him.

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

A true legend of the game. IMO, he was THE BEST left arm bowler. Everything aside, his bowling was phenomenal. He didn't require the pitch to help him generate swing/seam.

Talent is just talent, its not Indian or Pakistani :)

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

I liked him as a cricketer but hated him most for his politics in this team....

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

Lucky man! I used to play at a ground in Lahore only because I heard Wasim also played there as a boy. His career has been an amazing journey and interestingly, in the later part he was diabetic too.

My memory fails me a lot. Cannot remember most of what happened yesterday, let alone the world cup finals :(

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day…

Did you ask him if he ever gets tired?

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day…

amazing..

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

teendabbywala i swear i was writing exactly what you wrote, word for word

That was intense! I wonder if anyone in our current team can handle the course. I myself would hardly last 30 seconds in it.

lets try our super fit Shoaib… but :smack: he is way too fat for the pipe scrawling

Re: Met Wasim Akram the other day...

This appears to be a very young Wasim Akram, probably late eighties, in the early part of his career. What's amazing is that most Pakistani youngsters, especially those who get fast-tracked into the national side without much first-class experience (like Akram was), are severely lacking in the physical fitness department. It's only after they become a regular part of the national team that they are taught and start following any kind of training regimen. Wasim Akram seems to be flying through this obstacle, with grace, fluidity, and not a hint of hesitation, which attests to his physical fitness and natural athleticism. Also there's a little bit of naivete on Akram's part, because he could have easily been injured here. A fast bowler's limbs, joints, muscles, and other parts of the need to be handled with extreme, because they are easily susceptible to an injury that disrupts the bowling rhythm.

On the other hand, Wasim Akram could have chosen to be in the army and would've made a fine officer!

Can't say much about the rest but Younis Khan, Razzaq (he would have been fit for military too) or Yasir Hamid probably can...

You also have to understand that Wasim played his part in the political games that were rampant in the team at that point in time. Can you imagine Waqar being the captain of the Pakistani team.
