Thank you all for dropping by.
My most favourite poet is Parveen Shakir. I love her poetic style, elegance, and feminine voice. Of all her books, Khushboo is my favourite. When I first started writing poetry, Shakir was my inspiration. I would have loved to be a student in her class or even just to meet her in person, but unfortunately she passed away so suddenly and so soon. I think her shayari had a nice progression, from a young/hopeful girl to a mature/confident woman who can capture your heart with just her words.
In Pakistani risaalas (digests), there used to be a section at the end, titled "lafzon se khushboo aaye." To me, most of Shakir's poetry is like that...beautifully worded, meaningful, and captivating. Okay, I'll stop now. Enjoy!

Us ne khushboo ki tarah meri pazirayi ki
Kaise keh dun ke mujhe chor diya hai usne
Baat to sach hai magar baat hai ruswaai ki

But I don't agree with this shair in the ghazal:
Wo kahin bhi gaya lauta to mere paas aaya
Bas yehi baat hai achi mere harjaayi ki
Main tu aise aawaragard banday ko ghar se nikaal don. Joothi cheez ka mol kam ho jata hai.

There are a few other notable female names like Kishwar Naheed, Fehmida Riaz, Nosheen Gillani, etc. But I think Parveen was/is the most loved out of all because of the grace, eloquence and boldness in her style. She wrote mainly about love, and presented the emotions beautifully. This was different than male writers representing female emotions, despite not being able to fully grasp all the different cycles/roles/internal conflicts that our women go through in a lifetime. She protested against tradition and favoured a more progressive mindset. Other than that, her writing is simple and easily understood by the masses. When young girls can relate to her writing and are able to empathize with her, it becomes easier to visualize her as a role model.
And perhaps her tragic death also has a slight hand in gaining her the fame and legendary status she enjoys.

maaf karne ke baad bhi rishta waisa to nahin rehta… wo kia line hai:

Itnay sang-dil mat banen. Ab agar bichaaray ka qusoor sirf itna hi tha ke taangay pe baithi larki ka mere dhokay main peecha karne lag gaya, tu itna tu maaf kiya ja sakta hai na?
