COPENHAGEN: US President George W. Bush has expressed his full support for Denmark amid the controversy over the cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed, Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen said on Tuesday.
Addressing a news conference, Rasmussen said he would not go into the details of what he and the US president had discussed in their telephone conversation.
Both leaders had agreed on the need to resume a “dialogue”, Rasmussen said, but he conceded it was not easy against the backdrop of popular protests in several Muslim nations.
Rasmussen’s news conference was held after the Danish foreign ministry issued further travel warnings advising Danish nationals to postpone or cancel all non-essential travel to Indonesia and Afghanistan.
The ministry on Monday listed 16 Muslim countries on its travel advisory list after the Danish embassies in Damascus and Beirut were set on fire amid weekend protests against the caricatures.
