NYA has lived in Lahore from what I know, he knows it very well I'm sure. He certainly knows it a lot better than I do. I've only been through as a tourist briefly. Those pictures are off the net but personal pictures will tell a lot more I suppose.
Kukkar's a very common word, I'm surprised you've never heard of it. You won't believe how loud they are in real life. Glad you liked my Princess Di picture btw. She looks ok in a shalwar kameez don't you think?
Aaaah ...Lahore... I have studied there for five years... !! The best years of my life ... !! And once you have lived there ... you just can't leave .... even when you have left.
Here's the funny bit. We were driving into Paris last summer and believe it or not ... i had this severe bout of nostalgia for Lahore when I saw the suburbs of it. I will never get over it...
And NY is damn right.... everytime you go there ..... it is somehow better than the last time.I can still smell the peculier fresh air of bagh-jinnah after fajr prayer... and the ...Ohh ... How can I even begin to count what i miss.
But what I miss most is the spirit of the city. They have actually improved everything during the few nawaz sharif years...especially the Jail road... but that is so not the best thing about Lahore... it is the people and the welcoming warm embrace of the city that drags you towards itself.
There is but one place for me in Pakistan when I go to settle there ... and that is Lahore.

With all due respect, this is the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, and the first thing this Government ought to do is to get rid of this trash called Heera Mundi, as it doesnt suit us. I know it is being backed by some influential people, but that does not mean its right. I am not a zealot person, but I love this country to the extent that I do not want to see filth in it. If something is forbidden in our religion, should be forbidden in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. If your grandchildren want 'whatever you mentioned' they can get that in some other western country, but not Pakistan.
I am not a very devoted religious person, but I do believe that this filth needs to be dealt with. And who better to do this, than our boys in uniform, whose authority very little in Pakistan can challenge.
So I for one would be really grateful to any Government which cracks down on this place, which has become a common household joke nowadays, and get all those running the business behind the jail.
Lahore is a great city, and I am sure you would still have a good time exploring it (minus some of the stuff that you wanted to do).
Btw, I hope no one gets offended by this post, Sarah in particular, and I would also take this oppurtunity to invite you to visit my citites "Islamabad/Rawalpindi" as you would also enjoy visiting them. Wishing you a happy trip.
