I finger pick guitar. For that I have to have nails on right hand.
I did grow nails.

Last night one nail got stuck in fur in the blanket and broke. Its so hard now to pick strings :frowning:

Is there a way to make nail stronger.

apply garlic juice or lemon juice on them.

aww...that is sooo sad..
buy a pack of fake nails and german white glue...
ur business will flourish... :P :P

:D.....rub garlic on your fingernails.
soak/dip your nails into fresh lemon juice,you can also add water.

Play with your fingers....you'll get a more soft, rounded tone in music. Your fingers may bleed/blister at first, but you'll get used to it, your fingertips will slightly harden and soon you'll be able to play for hours and hours. Some big guitar players even used to go as far as putting super glue on their fingertips...though i'm not condoning that...i'll leave it to you. :)

Or.....just use a plectrum. :D

mahroush my hands are of the size of bear paw. finger picking with out nail don’t work.
That’s how I stared but as soon as I grew nails, its like I had a whole new tool :wub:
Plus once I get better I am going to get nylon string guitar. :yahoo:

As for as my left hand goes, tips are hard enough. that did not take to long :snooty:

And tunes I play can NOT be played with a pick :nono:

don't get those cheapo plastic fake nails. get acrylic or gel nails from salon. Those bad boys won't ever come off.

Or better yet, eat Biotin supplements! It's a vitamin that strengthens keratin; same protein that your hair, nails and skin is made from. Eat at least 1000 mcg-2000 mcg of it daily. They are pretty cheap too. A 2-months supply for $3-$5.

And omg! I play the electric guitar too. I have a Fender strat and I have a thing w/ the nail problem as well. I used to be a nail biter and now that I have gotten them on the slightly lengthy side, I can't get myself to keep them short. As in I still can't fret!

So for the fret hand you MUST keep your nails super short?! And how the heck does Dolly Parton play w/ those super long acrylics?

I know some ppl who know some ppl who, the last thing they will look at, would be her nails. :D
