^^ OMG so true!!! but people ( i mean all those gossiping aunties) would rant and rave about serving daal chawal etc etc.....
frankly i wudnt put anything on the menu i didnt like especially those meaty dishes (dont mind the starters though) im a veggie person ( aloo palak, saag, bengan ka bharta)....i dont really like biryani (unless nani makes it) so wots the point.....i know i shud think abt the guests too but like its my wedding right? am i being selfish!! hahaha!
its sooooo hard to please everyone though.... :( UGH!!! pakis!!!!
^ i so wouldn't care if the aunties grumbled about daal chawal on the menu. if they don't like it, they don't have to eat it! but beyond that, this is yet another reason why you don't invite the aunties to begin with!
Since you guys are talking about daal chawal- my mom comes from Kashmir, so for our shadis (my sisters, for now) we have always done daal chawal for mehndi, and OMG that daal is like the-most-amazing daal I have EVER tasted. It's slow-cooked with gosht over fire in those big dhegs. SO GOOD!
Oh and also, my sisters' weddings were pretty big affairs and everyone really liked the daal chawal thing going on. I say do it along with naans, salads, chutneys and all :)
Instead of doing meat kababs....how about potato kababs or cutlets?
Instead of chanay, how about haleem? Or you can try bagharay baingan or palak paneer. Another vegetable dish alternative is malai kofta (potato balls in creamy gravy).
Instead of a qorma type dish, why not nihari?
Instead of chicken karahi, other chicken dishes could be made such as butter chicken, stuffed chicken, etc.
For dessert, I remember a wedding, where a selection of pastries were served. That was "different" and very delicious. How about baklava? Or something different like panacotta?
A friend of mine had indo-chinese food for her wedding, which is rarely done, but it went well.
yaar how do get around not inviting aunties u dont even know…im trying to hint to my family i dnt want to get married in pak…if its here in ireland then none of the distant far far away annoying people will come haha…
tigerlily, sounds like your event went great! That is an amazing line up of dishes! BTW, do you have any food pics from the event? I would love to see how this would look at the table.
