We are planning to do a very small mehndi function in a hall for about 100 people. Need ideas for a simple menu that we could make at home (or get my khala’s to help with the cooking). We are also on a budget so don’t want to go all out on something expensive and extravagant, as the wedding is costing enough as it is!
At first I liked the idea of halwa puri and channa - it’s a main and a dessert in one! But no-one in our family can make puri’s nicely, and not enough to feed 100 people!
I went to an at-home mehndi once where all the sisters helped to make a variety of about 6 different salads - not the leafy rubbish kind but with things like pasta and couscous, and it was really, really yummy! And then mini cupcakes for dessert. But need ideas for nice salads.
Anyone have any ideas for a simple, easy to make at home menu?
How about easy-to-eat finger foods? Salads, spring rolls, nachos, veggies and dip, cheese and crackers, cocktail samosas, chicken/meat balls on a stick, kabaabs, etc
I just did a quick check… for my bridal shower, we had: spinach and cheese pies, lasagna, mini veggie pizza’s, buttered croissants, potato sliders with cheese, chips and dip, spring rolls, fruit punch, cookies, chocolate dipped strawberries and cake.
Not sure what kind of crowd you’ll have but if you do a mix of things, it’ll please everyone. We had lasagna and the veggie pizza because it is a more “main dish” type of food so it would satisfy those who wanted “real food.”
Anddd if nobody can make puri but you still want to go that route, you can always do partha instead… so channa, halwa, keema and paratha. I think that works well too

well if u having the mehndii in winter season haleem is a very good option ...as haleem on its own can be eaten separately n u can always have hotel rotii added to it ...in sweet u can go for gulab jamun or shahi tukra's ..good luck !
Halwa, paratha, channa and alu ki bhujia - to satisfy the aunties
Some sort of paste salad and some chicken rolls - to satisfy the rest.
Also you don't necessarily have to add in an extra dessert because halwa does the job for you. Oh and never do the puris for over 20 people.. it's VERY time taking and very tiring. We made puris for almost 50 people for a small function at our place and I was DEAD tired with all the work.
