menu for 1st Birthday party.

So my little girl will be 1 InshAllah next month. We have decided to do a celebration at home and cook up a storm to delight our guests. How we are doing two separate menus. Reason for this is my non desi friends children don’t eat spicy foods. So the plan is:Kids food:SFC wings with chips, fruit kebabs, non spicy pakoras all served in a food box. Adults menu:Meat Biryani (not sure which one), raita, samosas, roast chicken drumsticks.Desserts: cupcakes, jelly and a candy buffet.I am thinking the menu looks bare? Any input guys on anything I can add to the menus etc? I will try and make most of the food in advance.Thank you folks for the help.

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

First of all Happy Birthday in advance to your little princess.

For adults maybe add a salan/curry with naan as well?

Also some sort of salad thrown together

For desserts cupcakes, jelly & a candy buffet might be too much. Not a a lot of people would eat all that sweet stuff after having dinner. Not to mention the disastrous affect its going to have on the kids after eating that much sugar.

If you are up for the candy buffet, have bags or boxes at the buffet table & get everyone to make their own favors & take home. That way you get to keep the candy buffet since you wanna go all out & it won’t be too much at that moment.

This is what my our menu looked like at my daughter’s Aqeeqa & first birthday party.

Mutton Biryani
Chicken 65 (with gravy)
Tandoori Chicken
Apollo Fish (basically fried fish)
Chicker Cholay
Russian salad
Mac & Chick Salad
Hara raita & Naan
Soda/pop

Cheese pizza & pure juice boxes (no artificial flavors) for kids.

We had a vegetarian sit down table for some of our Hindu friends as well.

We had cake and then cupcakes for kids (adults ended up eating more of the cupcakes than the actual cake) no other sweet thing besides that.

For favors I made chocolate & caramel mixed nuts & pop corns for adults

For kids, plain pop corns & nuts, puzzle boxes, coloring books & crayons & stuffed toys. The puzzles, coloring books & crayons were given to them at the time of the party to keep them occupied & then they got to take their individual book & puzzle home along with the other things.

Here is what our cake & cupcakes looked like (so you know that if you decide to do a cake you can tie the cake & cupcakes together)

Good luck.

p.s I love the food box idea for kids.

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

Happy Birthday to your doll Princess :)

Your menu is just fine but I think you should add one gravy item in adult's menu so like you can serve chicken biryani with raite and mutton korma with nans.........you can make masala of biryani 1 day in advance and just put it on dum the day on birthday and Korma I believe you can fully prepare and cook 1 day in advance and make the nans on the birthday

For kids you can add mini pizzas I don't know if they will like pakoras but mini pizza would be a hit that I am sure of :)

for dessert add kheer or any kind of halwa for adults you can make both of them in advance & keep it in fridge

the above is just my suggestion :D

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

Whatever you serve make sure you mix in a good dose of streptomycin, niastin, and ritalin for good measure

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

^ your post only suggested one thing that you know names of couple of medicines/chemicals

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

Thank you for the responses guys. Hamurabi I dont have time for your suggestions. The reason I have left out gravy items is we will make up the plates and give them to the guests in their seats as I don't have the space to sit everyone at a table. As for the sweets The idea I had was te jelly would be the sweet to eat after the meal for the children whereas the cupcakes and candy buffet would be to take home.

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

^ You don't have to get everyone to sit at a table. Just do a buffet table & let everyone make their own plates & sit wherever they want, sofas, chairs, floor, wherever they find a place.

Plating the food will be too much hassle for you guys until unless you have some help plus there is a chance it'll get cold. You might also end up wasting food because certain people will like certain something more or less than the other dish.

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

I think it looks good. The only thing I might do is replace the drumsticks with a salan....just cuz I think that there's already a "drier" meat in the biryani. So a more wetter texture in the form of a salan would make a nice contrast. Even if you didn't do that...i think the menu looks good. I like that it's simple....and not overwhelming with so much going on. And if you have non-desi guests....to much food can be overwhelming since their menus tend to be more simple.

Ah it's so sad that you didn't realize the hidden humour of my post.

Humour?

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

candy buffet? what is that?

Re: menu for 1st Birthday party.

Hi Lusi, a candy buffet is literally a buffet of various candies/sweeties put on display and the guests pick and mix their own combinations to take away as a party favour/gift rather than giving gift bags.

My buffet will include: white mice, frazzles, saucers and other various sweets. We've gone for a mixture of retro and modern.
