Is there such thing as a mental health center in Karachi? Like a place where people who have mental problems can go and maybe get “educated or trained” to be somewhat livable in normal society. I hope that makes sense..
We have a family friend whose son is mentally disabled. He’s completely fine physically.. he can talk and everything, but he can’t understand basic concepts and make adult decisions, etc. He’s in his late 20s, early 30s. They live in Karachi and I guess the stigma with mental disability is very prominent there so I don’t know if they’ve ever seen a psychiatrist.. and we don’t really know what the actual medical diagnosis is for him.
I don't think there is any reputed institute in Karachi (apart from Edhi's apna ghar, which basicly is a refuge), BUT there is one in Hyderabad. Sir Cowasji Jehangir Institute of Psychiatry, Hyderabad is the most prominent institute of Psychiatry in Pakistan.

They provide occupational therapy.
The aim of occupational therapy is to help a patients with both minor and major disabilities achieve some level of independence in their activities of daily living (ADL’s) e.g. transferring, toileting, dressing, self grooming, getting around and getting back to work. Occupational therapy preferentially utilizes purposeful physical activities and exercises that help to enhance the functional skills of a patient and help him/her adapt and adjust to the home and work environment in spite of their limitations.
