Dear, well of course an ob/gyn should be consulted especially if you are above 18 and are having irregular mestruation. Maybe you are under severe stress or facing depression,, are you? stress and depression can be heavy on female reproductive system.
If nothing works out, birth control pills are the only way to go in western medicine.

At the end of last yr I had my period for 3 months…constantly.
I didn’t go to the doctor cuz I thought it would be over soon…well that ‘soon’ eventually became 3 months and then my mum found out.
She sent me to the doctor and she was very angry with that I didnt come earlier, as I was very weak and lifeless at that point!
I had to stop working for a few weeks and the doctor gave me iron pills as my HB was extremely low

Am ok now…but I still have very irregular bleedings.The doctor did give me some kinda hormone pills…but I didnt take em as they have a long list of side-effects!
ANyhow…don’t hesitate to see a doctor..even if u dont wanna take medicine!At least he/she will check ur HB in ur blood so that u wont feel weak or tired.

u can search the web for the herbal stuff.. but be sure to know wat u r takin..n well moms know lotsa ‘totkas’ u should ask her some.. I was going to suggest stuff with ‘thandi taseer’ but that mmight add to cramps..
u get some herbal treatment .. good! otherwise take those pills ..and avoid too much intake of the stuff listed by PP007 in future.. n yea have an ultrasound..get ur ovaries checked for follicles..

Lots of females here seem to have it for quite a long time. Sometimes the 2 week period cycle is simply composed of the discharge for the first week where the spottings are a black or dark brown colour. After a week occurs the main flow (the dark red one).
It may still continue cuz of an slight internal bruise which can go away within a short time but if it doesnt then do check it out!
When it comes to regulating the period cyle birth control pills are all that I heard of. Never of herbal (i doubt it if herbs would be effective though). Acupuncture sounds good. Minus points of the pills are if 1 is missed even on one day then spotting may occur so it's very important to take it regularly else no point. Another problem is feeling a bit dizzy from taking it so take it before u go to sleep. There should be no problem taking these contraceptives and then worried about not having children in the future.

That has always been a problem. That, and pads being too damn expensive.
Keep paper towels (the thick kinds) as backups.
Grrr…now I have to walk, I believe like a mile or a half to Eckerds, pay like 10 dollars for a bag of pads that usually costs 5 bucks (yes, they take advantage of us univ students. Grrr
But I’m an optomist. My exams begin next week. Perhaps by then I’ll bleed to death or I’ll have to be hospitalized for internal bruising.

the eggs are produced by i think the ovaries. and then the egg comes down for fertilization. if there's no fertilization then the egg and the lining of the uterus is "flushed out" through menstruation. so when you have your first period it means that your body is producing eggs. regardless if you have had sex or not, the eggs are being produced.

I am somewhat suprised that so many girls are having problem with their monthly circle, Oh man wow periods for one two or three months constantly and than not having for months and ect... heavy stuff.
This all seems very unnormal to me, I have normal circle, period for 4-5 days, lil or no pain, just feeling weak for one or two days and than its over. I know of girls falling unconscious due to the pain and its recommanded to take pills to relieve the pain, any doctor will be able help there,its good to go to a gynaecologist for check ups. One thing its recommdaned to write down the dates of ur circle in a calender, one must note the day it started and the day it ended and when the bleeding was strong and weak for reference.
If your circle is unnormal its adviced to see a doctor. I agree with some ppl that stress could be a factor for havin irregular circle. One thing I wanna ask if u goto gym or do regular excercise and if u eat healthy? just for my own information, thanks
