My apologies if this thread is in the wrong forum, I wasn’t sure where exactly to place it.
For women who at times have more than one period a month, what are the protocols for praying?
I usually have a normal menstruation cycle every month; however at times, I’ll begin spotting, or have very light bleeding 2 weeks after my period. This will last anywhere between 1 -3 days, sometimes more. I’m not sure why this happens, I’m assuming it’s related to stress. Anyhow, is this considered a period? Should I not pray during this time?
If you have any bleeding apart from periods its called istihadhah and you should pray in those days…there are certain rulings to differentiate between the two, including the number of days between two periods, number of days the bleeding continues, the color and consistency of the blood etc and I think if you fulfill any one of them then its considered istihadha. Though Im not sure about it.
The first condition is that you know your regular period days/pattern and anything after that is considered istihadha
If you dont know your regular pattern then you either count the days of the bleeding, if it exceeds 10 days (15 days in Shafi’ madhab and 13 days in another one) then you take ghusl and start praying.
Or you count the days of purity in between two periods, the minimum period of purity is 13 days
You should ask for more detailed rulings from a local scholar, or look for a book with detailed rulings in it. I couldn’t find anything detailed and reliable on the internet to refer you to. All the material online about istihadha is by shia’s, and I’m not an expert myself, I read about this a long time ago and I dont remember the details exactly.
As far as I know, any bleeding other than your menstrual cycle ( where AF can last from 3 to 10 days) is called istihada and in such a duration, you can do wuzu and offer your prayers.
Do consult your doctor for the treatment. I am not sure about your age but I have heard when you are new to your menstrual cycle, to some girls, it takes 1 to 2 years to get the cycle normal (in some cases).
Thanks Queen. I am 22 years old, so I’m not all that new lol. I’m assuming it’s related to stress, as my mom said she use to have the same thing happen to her. Nonetheless, I suppose I really should see a doctor soon.
