Yaar you should not hide it completely otherwise they take you for granted and never learn how badly it affects us. I would never say it or brag about it to anyone outside...but when it comes to family living with men, its totaly different story....they should be told that you are not feeling well....if they ask u to do something heavy..just say you can't becuz ur not feeling well....and if they are so dumb to not to understand and ask for a reason...just say it that its monthly pain....trust me it should be good enough to say it once and next time they will keep that in mind. There is nothing to be ashmed of it or anything to hide it.

Here's a few things to try:
1. If your cycles are fairly predictable, start taking Ibuprofen, 400 mg. either twice a day or three times a day, one week before your period would start, making sure you take it on a full stomach each time.
2. Cut down on excess salt at around the same time (to avoid fluid retention).
3. Any source of local heat to the abdomen and lower back when pain strikes should help provide temporary relief.
4. Consider going on either the traditional oral contraceptives or if your cycles are particularly heavy and you are at risk for anemia, talk to your physician about Seasonale (the one that'll continue for three months at a time, so you wouldn't have more than four periods per year).
Hope this helps.
