jealous ppl.. yesterday i was out for a stroll and this norwegian association of the universe president wanted to know where in scandinavia i was originally from. so hah! in yo face.
Re: Men, would you consider cosmetic surgery?
not true as a blanket statement, true with qualifiers. I would have stated it as cosmetic surgeries which are unnecessary are against islamic teachings. Then the issue of what is necessary comes into play, and that is a very long debate.
I personally am too damn good looking to need cosmetic surgery, they will just ruin a good thing going. God is a better designer in my case than some med school hack. did i also note that I am also the most modest person? also that I am a compulsive liar.
anyways..point being much of cosmetic surgery can be considered unnecessary and vain, but not all, and it may vary person to person and situation to situation.
This..
And as you pointed out there is a LOT of debate about what is considered 'necessary' (eg a lot of scholars say a nose job is ok to correct 'deformity' or something that doesn't look 'normal' - again subjective, so not necessarily only allowed in the case of disfigurement or accident and can be used for cosmetic purposes according to some scholars.. They also tend to differentiate between permanent and non-permanent procedures and of course a lot of surgeries are reversible.. Others will bring in issues such as does the aesthetic 'problem' cause the person anxiety or mental distress.. In religious terms the issue is a lot more complicated than a simple yes or no.. even when it comes to vanity..
There have been fatwas posted on here in the past for anyone who wants more detailed info..

There are a lot of grey areas tho.. One of my cousins has vitiligo (total loss of pigmentation) on her neck, even tho it's due to a disease some ppl will still argue it's not 'that bad' as it can be covered with makeup.. She's had surgery (skin grafts) and now laser treatment to make it look more normal as it affects her self-confidence..

Re: Men, would you consider cosmetic surgery?
I watched a program yesterday, apparently the number of men going under the knife for cosmetic purposes is increasing drastically and the doctors ( = businessmen) are tapping into it, they were loads of 'butch' men getting botox and cheek fillers and everything. Most of them were doing it because they thought they would lose business to the influx of young people so they want to keep ahead of the game.
Re: Men, would you consider cosmetic surgery?
I would not even consider hair color let alone cosmetic surgeries.
