I read this the other day so I think I should share it:
A man who has two wives, but does not give them equal treatment, will find half his body lost (paralysed) on the Day of Judgement.
Hadith of Tirmidhi on the authority of Abu Hurayrah.
and to treat them equal is impossible cuz the Quran says so.

also in Sunan Abu Dawud (2128), and in fact the other two famous Sunan works as well: Ibn Majah & al Nasai.
The hadith shows the permissibility of having two wives whilst stressing that they should be treated equally.

I read somewhere that Islam allows marrying two sisters at a time? That's not true, is it?

No it isn’t true.
“Prohibited to you (For marriage) are:- Your mothers, daughters, sisters; father’s sisters, Mother’s sisters; brother’s daughters, sister’s daughters; foster-mothers (Who gave you suck), foster-sisters; your wives’ mothers; your step-daughters under your guardianship, born of your wives to whom ye have gone in,- no prohibition if ye have not gone in;- (Those who have been) wives of your sons proceeding from your loins; and two sisters in wedlock at one and the same time, except for what is past; for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful” (Al-Qur’an - 4:23)

I guess the 2 sisters thing in synchrony was a fetish back then too.
Men today are no different than what they were centuries ago.

I’ve seen scholars agree with you that treating two women emotionally equally is impossible for a man to do. However, they go on to say that since God would not make lawful something that is impossible, the meaning of hadiths such as this one can only be that in terms of material things a man must treat his wives equally. So if you give one wife an expensive necklace than the other must also be given such a gift.

Quran 4:129

Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women, even if it is your ardent desire: But turn not away (from a woman) altogether, so as to leave her (as it were) hanging (in the air). If ye come to a friendly understanding, and practise self-restraint, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful. *
so here Allah explains that men shall never be able to deal justly with all....
hence, what is required is that one does not leave one wife totally and stick all the while to the other....
come to a good friendly understanding and live a happy life with all the wives....
