I remember making gobhi gosht. I followed the recipe mom had given me, but I thought adrak would be nice addition to it, so I chopped up a lot of adrak and chucked it in the handi.
End result the gobhi gosht tasted bitter, finishing it became a chore.

Moral of the story: NEVER try to outsmart your own mum when it comes to cooking. She will always be waaaaaaaay better.
