this is a nice thread you've started Lafanter!.
wellllll my car history isn't all that bad, most of the cars that I've ever driven were either rentals or company cars, cars that I've bought with my own hard earned cash are just a handfull, the most unforgettable one of them being a 1997 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo, turquoise over tan, 3.6L Flat-6, mine had a Gulf stage-2 upgrade and was pushing out -if I remember correctly- 512 bhp, the fastest (309 km/h as tested by me), the most powerful (512 bhp @ 6700 rpm and 498 ft-lb of torque @ 4500 rpm), and the most dangerous (remember it might be AWD but only 20% of the power was being sent to the front wheels, so it was very infact dangerously tail happy at times) car I've ever owned, other then that, my first car was a 1997 Volvo 850 T5R, 2.5L Turbo Flat-5 (an engine still being used today an is currently powering the mighty Focus RS), and welll as first cars go.... it was a pain in the a$$, mostly due to the fact that I drove it like crazy, would drive it all day and then all night, and all that fun did take its toll on the engine, got it replaced after just 14 months, unfortunately the car was out of warranty, and after the new engines other problems started comming in thick and fast, replaced the turbo 2wice, the radiator twice, eventually I sold the car 6 months later, had no car for the next 6 months.
my second car was a 1998 VW Golf Mk4 GTi, was a good car, didn't get a chance to really experience the car completely as I had to leave for the states, my dad sold it a month after I departed for Cali, for the next couple of years I did not have a car, my cousin use to drive me around, in his 1997 Camaro Z28, a bad car, very underpowered, but a good highway cruiser.
anyways I got back to Kuwait in late 2002, used my dads spare car for an year, it was a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser, it was great off road but useless everywhere else, it was too damn cumbersome and for someone who is used to drive small turbo FWD cars, it was a nightmare, you put your foot down and it'd take 6 years to climb another 10 km/h and had a top speed of 12 km/h, so I got hired at my first official job, worked there for 6 months, got my first company car, it was a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, one of the worst cars I've ever driven, and thankfully it was replaced by 2004 mercedes CL500, sounds unbelievable?, I know but it was handed out to me because the employee that had it resigned, and they let me keep the car untill they were able to fill in that recently vacant position and thats exactly what happened, with-in 4 months the position was filled and the car was handed to the new employee, all in all it was a woderfull experience driving something that expensive knowing that I won't have to give it back the next day and pay its due rent charge.
so it was back to the old LC again, but since I wasn't a huge fan of the car I decided to sell it and so I did for about 8500 k.d, and what happened next might've just been the best and the worst choice I've ever made in my LIFE, a friend talked me into buying moderately used 1996 Ferrari F355, owned it for 8 months, reason?, well I was stupid enough to think that I could use it as my everyday driver, wellll I was wrong... infact very wrong!, and the one thing I've learnt from this experience was that a 70,000 km (what the odo-meter on my F355 read) supercar is like a 900,000 km Toyota Camry, will fall apart at any moment and the servicing cost's were a joke (130 k.d for an oil+filter change and 50 k.d for labour) not to mention the service intervals have so little gap between then that I could barely finish coffee before the Service warning light would come on again, anyway I had spent just 8 months with the car and I had already spent a Corolla's total just to keep it running!, this was part of the reason why I sold the car and the other part was that if my parents -who were in Pakistan on vacation back then- ever found out, they'd have killed me, especially my dad who's happened to own a few exotics in his time, and he always use to warn me that Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are not for us middle class lots and he was absolutely 101% right, anyways it took me 4 months to finally get rid of the F355 which I sold for a good deal, I made a 20% profit on the amount that I paid for the car, its been a couple of years now and parents still don't know a thing about this and i don't plan on telling them either, atleast not for the next 20 years.
moving on, my dad was a bit shocked that I did not buy a car for a whole year as to he knew that I had sold the Land Cruiser a month before they left for there vacation to Pakistan and upon his return I was still car-less not knowing that I almost lost my virginity to a Ferrari, however, on request, I was gladly offered another company car for a few months, a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro, a month after my F355 was officially sold which was 5 month after I put on the market, now I drive a Honda NSX ..... almost, well now a days its spending more time at the shops then with me and I might just have to sell it off or maybe, just maybe, I might be able to gather enough cash for a decent used 4 door sports sedan and get to keep the NSX too and about the Porsche 911 CS?, welll thats just wayyy to precious!. :D
:D lol going from a 911 to golf to trailblazer to ferrari.. now NSX?? man u are only lucky fellow. job well done!
