Men and their Rides

This thread I am dedicating to my friends who have a passion for cars and treat cars like living beings. Breathing through their exhaust pipes and RPM dials keep a check on their heart beat. They say that men and cars have a special kind of bonding on par with the kind shared among the best of friends. This is a bonding whose foundations are built on the basis of love and camaraderie which even time fails to decay. It won’t be too wrong to say that cars are a man’s best friend like may be the way a diamond is a woman’s. They have this strange affinity towards cars which no woman has been able to decipher so far. Men are like kids when it comes to cars and one can just see a twinkle in the eyes at the mere mention of their cars name. Romance is the word many people would like to associate between cars and men and very rightly so. Cars, I sincerely believe have got a therapeutic feel to it, after a long day of work just sitting behind the wheel of your car, turning on the music and just going for a drive just makes one feel that this is as good as it gets.

So friends what we are going to share? All of your affairs! lol

yes all those fine products of metal and plastic you had or have, starting from the 1st ever you bought or used to learn driving. What was your 1st experience. Who, when and how did you fell for. I need all details

PS. please participate everyone, women also invited as i know there are women out there equally passionate about cars as men but the thread is specially dedicated to men.

Re: Men and their Rides

I agree, my affairs have been limited to the BMW family. Brought a 3 series out of college and then upgraded a about a year ago...to a newer 3 series.

When I'm in my car on the open road...pure perfection.

Re: Men and their Rides

i wish i had a car!:(

^
^I love BMW's 3 series, specially the new coupes

hmmm, my 1st love

in the kitchen while talking to a friend I said "kash koi gary mil jai". He replied if there is a car up for sale would u buy it, i said ya sure. At the time i couldnt drive cars, just motor bikes.
Any ways he took me 2 streets down a car parked on the drive way for sale, he saw on his way back from work. It was 1991 Mazda 626 eclipse version (best a mazda 6 could get in 1991). It had 2.2ltr 115 hp (86 kW) inline 4 cylinder engine with electronic fuel injector, cruise control, power mirrors, power windows, power steering, ABS, air conditioning, alloy wheels, CD player. I mean what more can u expect from a 91 model car. It had every thing what a new 2006 mazda 6 had lol. Opened the bonnet and just wow a very nice and clean 2.2ltr EFI engine sitting there. That was it, i fell for it. Told my friend yes, i want this. Owners of the car were sitting the gerrage. A son and his Hungarian parents. Their asking price was very low. just $850!!! I had my doubts abt the asking price but the car was so beautiful I stopped bothering about it and just wanted to but buy it no matter what. We told em we are students and bla bla bla, his dad was a real nice and generous man. He didnt argue much and we had a deal at $550. I knew I hit a jack pot. lol the real market value was around 3-4K for that very well maintained and clean top of the range 626.

Any ways, took me just few hrs to learn driving. Had my 1st police chase in my 1st 10 mins of driving lol. I had no license. Cops were so nice, i got them chatting within mins and told em that I bought this car few hours ago and just test driving now. They were shocked when I told them I bought it for $550. They left me with just a warning.

Loved the the engine, it was manual so it was even more fun. Manual transmissions dont fail much but I broke my gear box within 4 months. I used to drive like a maniac and power shift all the time. Used to scare the heck out of my friends. Car was so light and with 108 horses in it, it used to just fly. I used to give a ride home to one indian friend after work and he used to sit there freaking out, grabbing hold to every bit of his seat lol. He used to say "Tery garry, aisey lagta hai abhy urne lagey gy" lol

I had it for abt 8 months and I have so many stories to tell abt this car but not now, some other time. I had abt 4 speeding tickets and few other infringements. Few burnouts, blow the engine one time, traveled across and back south western Australia on a patched up blown engine, one red light running incident, my 1st 200KM/H moment on kiwinana free way. .. ....... kahan taak suno gey, kahan taak sunaon. lol they had 60-70KM/H zones thru out perth and I used to do 60-70 in 1st gear and then change into 2nd 3rd and ask my friends, like whats the point of having 5 gears when all I can use are 1st 2. lol (good times, very good times)
to be continued...............

not my mazda but I had the exact same. Will post mine pics as soon as I find some.

Just got this yesterday, brand new paid in cash

mash’Allah! good job. you didn’t get the hybrid wheels? lolzz

as for me, I wish I didn’t have so many responsibilities.. I could right now just go out and lease an M5!!! but :frowning: :frowning: my luck is bad. insh’Allah in the near future. Right now driving a ****box, 92 4cyl camry and another 98 v6 camry. Yes I love my camry’s.

I tested the 3 series (328 to be exact), it was okay, nothing really eye catching but a good dd though. I find that there are just too many people driving 3 series nowadays, it’s as if 3series are the new civics lolzz
The 7 series I also tested, pure luxury+performance but that’s not a car for a 21y/o.

I am in the market for an older(91-96) 5series now (535i or 540i) what do you guys think?

this is a nice thread you've started Lafanter!.

wellllll my car history isn't all that bad, most of the cars that I've ever driven were either rentals or company cars, cars that I've bought with my own hard earned cash are just a handfull, the most unforgettable one of them being a 1997 Porsche 911 Twin Turbo, turquoise over tan, 3.6L Flat-6, mine had a Gulf stage-2 upgrade and was pushing out -if I remember correctly- 512 bhp, the fastest (309 km/h as tested by me), the most powerful (512 bhp @ 6700 rpm and 498 ft-lb of torque @ 4500 rpm), and the most dangerous (remember it might be AWD but only 20% of the power was being sent to the front wheels, so it was very infact dangerously tail happy at times) car I've ever owned, other then that, my first car was a 1997 Volvo 850 T5R, 2.5L Turbo Flat-5 (an engine still being used today an is currently powering the mighty Focus RS), and welll as first cars go.... it was a pain in the a$$, mostly due to the fact that I drove it like crazy, would drive it all day and then all night, and all that fun did take its toll on the engine, got it replaced after just 14 months, unfortunately the car was out of warranty, and after the new engines other problems started comming in thick and fast, replaced the turbo 2wice, the radiator twice, eventually I sold the car 6 months later, had no car for the next 6 months.

my second car was a 1998 VW Golf Mk4 GTi, was a good car, didn't get a chance to really experience the car completely as I had to leave for the states, my dad sold it a month after I departed for Cali, for the next couple of years I did not have a car, my cousin use to drive me around, in his 1997 Camaro Z28, a bad car, very underpowered, but a good highway cruiser.

anyways I got back to Kuwait in late 2002, used my dads spare car for an year, it was a 2000 Toyota Land Cruiser, it was great off road but useless everywhere else, it was too damn cumbersome and for someone who is used to drive small turbo FWD cars, it was a nightmare, you put your foot down and it'd take 6 years to climb another 10 km/h and had a top speed of 12 km/h, so I got hired at my first official job, worked there for 6 months, got my first company car, it was a 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer, one of the worst cars I've ever driven, and thankfully it was replaced by 2004 mercedes CL500, sounds unbelievable?, I know but it was handed out to me because the employee that had it resigned, and they let me keep the car untill they were able to fill in that recently vacant position and thats exactly what happened, with-in 4 months the position was filled and the car was handed to the new employee, all in all it was a woderfull experience driving something that expensive knowing that I won't have to give it back the next day and pay its due rent charge.

so it was back to the old LC again, but since I wasn't a huge fan of the car I decided to sell it and so I did for about 8500 k.d, and what happened next might've just been the best and the worst choice I've ever made in my LIFE, a friend talked me into buying moderately used 1996 Ferrari F355, owned it for 8 months, reason?, well I was stupid enough to think that I could use it as my everyday driver, wellll I was wrong... infact very wrong!, and the one thing I've learnt from this experience was that a 70,000 km (what the odo-meter on my F355 read) supercar is like a 900,000 km Toyota Camry, will fall apart at any moment and the servicing cost's were a joke (130 k.d for an oil+filter change and 50 k.d for labour) not to mention the service intervals have so little gap between then that I could barely finish coffee before the Service warning light would come on again, anyway I had spent just 8 months with the car and I had already spent a Corolla's total just to keep it running!, this was part of the reason why I sold the car and the other part was that if my parents -who were in Pakistan on vacation back then- ever found out, they'd have killed me, especially my dad who's happened to own a few exotics in his time, and he always use to warn me that Ferrari's and Lamborghini's are not for us middle class lots and he was absolutely 101% right, anyways it took me 4 months to finally get rid of the F355 which I sold for a good deal, I made a 20% profit on the amount that I paid for the car, its been a couple of years now and parents still don't know a thing about this and i don't plan on telling them either, atleast not for the next 20 years.

moving on, my dad was a bit shocked that I did not buy a car for a whole year as to he knew that I had sold the Land Cruiser a month before they left for there vacation to Pakistan and upon his return I was still car-less not knowing that I almost lost my virginity to a Ferrari, however, on request, I was gladly offered another company car for a few months, a 2005 Audi A6 3.2 Quattro, a month after my F355 was officially sold which was 5 month after I put on the market, now I drive a Honda NSX ..... almost, well now a days its spending more time at the shops then with me and I might just have to sell it off or maybe, just maybe, I might be able to gather enough cash for a decent used 4 door sports sedan and get to keep the NSX too and about the Porsche 911 CS?, welll thats just wayyy to precious!. :D

nice, congrats and Masha Allah, and you opted for the right colour aswell its beautiful, so is it the 4Cyl model or the full phat EX-L V6?, either way its a really nice car to drive, miles better then any of its rivals like the Camry or the Altima and its a personal opinion but I think its better then the U.S Spec Nissan Maxima.

Re: Men and their Rides

Spock that is one hot ride! What is the spec?

I wasn’t going to share my car history, as it’s too long… but seeing as you’ve excluded women from the title, i feel the urge to write it up, and will when i have the time :snooty:

:D lol going from a 911 to golf to trailblazer to ferrari.. now NSX?? man u are only lucky fellow. job well done!

well if I am not wrong then you’re looking for an E34 series 530i/540i?, they were made from 1989-1995 for the sedan and 1989-1996 for the station-wagon, well they’re great cars, very powerful and quite reliable but can be very frustrating when a thing or 2 need replacement and not to mention the cost of the part+the labour charges, if you are looking for the best bang for your buck, then I’d suggest you go for the 535i, its got a 3.5L Flat-6 cylinder engine, its fast and good on the fuel, the 530i is welll slow and underpowered and the 540i is one thirsty automobile, don’t expect anything over 14-15 mpg’s from it, and for that reason I think the 535i is the best choice out of the lot as to it has the same basic engine block as the E34 M5 which means its strong and can sustain alot of power, over all these cars are good for around 200,000 miles but I suggest you look for one that has less then 120,000 miles on it so it won’t give you much in the way of trouble for the next 50,000-6,0000 miles but beware the spare parts are gonna be hard to find and they’re gonna have a price tag from mar’s but in return you get those killer European muscular looks and the best driving experience among any other car in its class and price range, especially if you opt for the chunky 5 speed manual.

here are a few nicely done E34’s;-

thanks a lot man!, hard work and no play is not how I roll :smooth: :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Men and their Rides

hey a7mado, thanks for the info! yes you are correct it's the E34 I am looking at. getting a low mileage car will be an issue but will hunt it down sooner or later. lolz, i don't think ill be alive to put 60,000miles on that car.. just want it to last 3-4 years down the road i'll be happy. thanks again!

you welcome :),

here is a low milage example, now I don’t know which part of the states you’re from but this to me seems like a pretty good deal, its not working and requires about a little over $1,500 worth of work on it but it’ll be a better deal then a nearly working example and the owner of this car states that it was his restoration project which means that most of the parts on this car are as good as new if not brand new, it’ll be on the road with in a week purchase if given to an experienced mechanic and its got 135,000 miles on which means that it’ll be good enough for another 4-5 years without major repairs IF taken good care of -serviced ontime, genuine factory spare parts, oil change when necessary, bla bla bla, yada yada and vice versa.

happy hunting

if you’re not interested in the above link then here is one that actually works and looks as if the owner had the whole car redone in terms of exterior condition of the car.

Thanks maroush and a7mado :)

I went for the full phat exl-6 :) I wanted the premium sound system along with the heated leather seats (or butt warmers as some call em) lol

a7 I did alot of research on the cars you mentioned and came to the same conclusions as you did! btw, you have a lot of experience with various brands, next time Im contacting you, will save me alot of research time!

Re: Men and their Rides

One thing that I really like about BMW's is if you buy em new, you get a 4 year bumper to bumper 48K, and ALL servicing is free, even oil changes or brakes! Amazing!

niceeeee, but warmers sound ideal for a cold cold winter morning :D, yeah sure anytime bro, anytime, I'll be glad to help.

BMW assistance is -to me- by far the best among any mass production auto manufacturer, how ever as a whole?, nothing comes close to the kind of service the boys at Bugatti can provide IF you're left stranded anywhere, there best of the best will be at your disposal 24/7/365 and just 1 phone call away, its not surprising since the car it self cost the best part $3 mill but I think its amazing!.

anywhere in the world  ?

hey thanks for the links to eBay, I am in Canada though and importing cars gonna cost me without a connection. But thanks anyways.
