memory slots

Is there a way to find out how many memory slots are being used without opening up the computer? I have XP, Windows2000 & 2003 operating Systems on them.

Re: memory slots

I was reluctant to using a 3rd party software and was hoping there might be some place in Windows to get this info. But if I have no choice I'll try this.

Thanks.

Re: memory slots

Just ordered some memory from 4allmemory.com . They have better prices than the rest, and they also have a good tool that detects how much memory you have in each slot and how many are available. It was an Active-x component, so it didn't require installation.
I have dealt with them in the past and been satisfied with them.

Re: memory slots

An ActiveX component doesn’t require an installation? Thats new to me.

If they have it embeded on their html page, it got downloaded to your machine (in the form of a cab file) and got installed as well. If you are using IE, go to **Tools > Internet Options > Settings > View Objects **and you will see a list of everything that you have got installed directly off of a webpage using IE to date.

Re: memory slots

w4sgreen9.exe (@ 4allmemory.com) is a setup file (or a self-extracting setup file). you did nothing different than the everest program

Re: memory slots

Here’s another one:

Again it’s a third party install…so not really adding any value by this plug

In unix, there’s a handy command that will display this exact information with no effort at all.

Re: memory slots

The free version of Everest only works in a "Home" environment. Make sure your PC is not part of a domain setup.

Tupperware Aunty

Re: memory slots

:p
I just wanted to clear up the "free version" catch. Shame on you for using the sacred aunty's name in vain.
