Memory Loss

Re: Memory Loss

I am yet to read this newly purchased book. But I know that there are three universally proven techniques called IMPRESSION (Get a strong impression of what you want to remember), ASSOCIATION (Assoicating difficult to remember things with something easy to recollect. This technique is widely used) and REPETITION (This is the technique used by our Haafiz to remember the whole recitation of Quran). I have successfully used the above three practical techniques in my professional career. In fact, I partly attribute success in my life and career to the above three techniques.

Finally I would say that forgetting is as important as remembering.

There are various ways to challenge your brain. As an engineer and as a manager I regularly faced technical and managerial problems and solving it used to be challenging. I am also a strong chess player and led my college and company team in various chess tournaments in India. Playing chess develops several intellectual skills and it happened to be a useful brain exercise for me.

Re: Memory Loss

Get a mini voice recorder, keep it in your shirt pocket and throughout the day record, "Note to self..my name is_____"

Re: Memory Loss

You are right one cant stop oneself from thinking too much, just try to divert your attentions. I am sorry if my answer is lame I am a little pissed off right now. I am stressed about something someone remarked about one of my comments on the forum. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Re: Memory Loss

A typical work environment normally (not always of course) does not push our brain cells as much as a typical academic environment does. Probably thats the reason that most people feel losing their mental prowess a bit during or right after the early 20s.

I feel the same as some of the other people here. I spend 30% of my time documenting whatever I do technically. That means 30% of my time is spent sinking deeper and deeper into my chair till the time I am in a half sitting and half lying down position and of course, yawning. So yeah you can imagine ...

Re: Memory Loss

Leenz,
no its an excercise for brain, u just need to stand on head down and feet up, u can take support with wall though... but do it for only few sec initially, and later u can increase th eduration depending... all blood will go to you head, and will open blocked veins and so...

Furqan,
roller coasters is different, and that can make people dizzy, depending on the G- force levels they have for brain!

Re: Memory Loss

yeah record whole day and listen whole night :s

but what if she forget to turn that on ? :s

Re: Memory Loss

or if she forgets to operate it

Re: Memory Loss

Exactly. One interesting point is that as students under 20, in grade school, the teachers have exercises for us that are designed and force us to use impression, association, and repetition. So we feel like our memories are sharp, but its because we are in a structured environment that provides us the tools and opportunity to use these techniques.

Once we get into the college and post-college stages, we have to motivate ourselves to use these techniques on our own. You may use flash cards to memorize your spelling words in 3rd grade, but are you using flash cards to memorize the zillion instruction that your boss is giving you in your first job at 25? Therefore, you see this whole culture of sticky-notes, and journals, and appointment books, etc that litter our 22+ year old lives.

Also, yes, Ginko balboa is great for improving memory. I think that stuff just increases your circulation so your brain is getting more blood and oxygen. Exercise does the same exact thing, btw.

Re: Memory Loss

eat 7 almonds daily (soak them in water overnight and eat them peeled, in the morning). Channay ka halwa is good 2 for a weak memory.

Re: Memory Loss

sal: that sounds like tons of work  we americans always want a easy way out :cb:

saima: i actually have a mini tape recorder for classes but i think i might just try the idea. but then again there’s a billions of things we do in the daytime how would i know i will forget this so i should record this or do the techniques for each and everything like sal said hmph it’s impossible

dusky: aww it’s all right hun, don’t worry i’ll find my way thru =) thanks

scratch: lol yea i believe that’s probably it because comes the time for exams i lose my hair and become crazy

bhai: allrighty i’ll try doing that Insh’Allah..thanks

PCG: my memory and my skills for math have gone down the drain since i’ve come here. no matter how many beatings i got in pakistan i still think the way of studying and memorizing was better than stuff here. in highschool they always let you go the easy way and half of the students don’t even care and my bunch were the not caring and not letting anyone study type so yea here i am half buddi and half stupid. sighs

b_v: i think im gonna stick with the almonds and not the chanay ka halwa lol thanks hugs
