I was in 5th grade when my youngest sister was born and nani ammi took over making school lunches for us.Her theory was that butter and jam just had to be a part of the lunch.I hated those ‘jam toast’ lunches.I still haven’t been able to overcome my dislike for jamssssss!!!

Oh my goodness! I thought I was the only one on the face of this planet who had the misfortune of experiencing butter & jam/ jelly sandwiches!!!

I have no idea where this came from or why it’s a thing! No peanut butter, no fluff… just straight butter and jam. So… Gross!! I got made fun of for it by my friends in elementary school

So funny!
We also had jam and butter, which made me want to cry!

My son loves , loves butter /jam sandwiches,and took them to high school (he is 18)! Totally eww.. That and he wanted peanut butter/jam / and then tuna sandwiches or roast beef sandwiches. Three different sandwiches everyday!

Fondest memory:

Mom would place my carton of orange juice (Sun Top) in the freezer and pack me a spoon. So, during luch, I git to enjoy an orange ice slushy…perfect for the Saudi heat. That was fun.

I stopped reading after the first few replies. All you niccas got meat sandwiches, all my mum packed for my lunch was BUTTER sandwiches, a crisp packet and a carton of juice in primary school.

That prolly cuz you were a picky eater when you were a lil tyke. And maybe you scrunched your nose up at meat sammies and other foods and did well with bread and butta, n so that’s what u got? That makes sense. Kids will walk around with just a a piece of naan in their hand and that like makes their day.

How can you people talk about jam and butter this way? It’s like THE best thing ever. My all time fave (and I still eat it till this day) is a toasted toast with butter and jam ..

Sun Top <3 I am a saudi born too and I just cant stop loving their products. Albaik is on the top of the hitlist.

In school times I used to take chicken burger patties in a bun or Samooli my best friend used to bring “sheeray wala paratha” I miss that. I tried it now but couldnt get the same taste.

What Reha said is so true for me too. Lol. I wanted to eat my friends’ lunch that was more American. They loved mine.

Shami kabab rolls…oh lorddddd…we ate so many shami kababs!

The four of us would have lunch at the same time usually so one person would have the lunch bag, we’d get all our rolls from them and eat at our tables.

We always envied people who ate more “American lunches” and they envied us and often traded sandwiches with us.

I grew up on the American style lunch lol…pb&j or bologna/turkey sandwich, chips, Apple or banana and juice box. Sometimes in winter we’d get soup in a thermos and crackers. No kebab rolls or anda parathas

i didn’t go to school. so, i missed out lunches. my friends used to take ‘daal roTii’ , ‘saag roTii’ and once in a while goat meat curry with rice.
