Melodrama in Asian cultures

Does anyone here agree with the fact that melodrama is prominent amongst Asian cultures?

Look at Bollywood cinema, even people I’ve met seem to have either in or off buttons in their emotions when something wrong happens or someone is ill it seems to be expressed at 110 percent rather than a realistic mediun

Anyone agree?

Re: Melodrama in Asian cultures

I blame lack of opportunities for emotional outlets or a very strong desire for attention. Given that in our cultures families tend to be large, so at the very least one kid has to turn out neglected and on goes their never satiated desire to be noticed, hence the melodrama. Add to that the highly regarded bollywood which encourages men to mourn like sissies over lost you-can't-even-call-it-love, in addition to schizophrenic dance moves, and women are required to heave like they suffer from severe asthma over slightest of the slight, is it any wonder why our people are so dramatic.

Re: Melodrama in Asian cultures

Hey its not just Desi folk…

Italians and Chinese as well as some people in Latin America I come across can be pretty dramatic… nobody is more so than West Africans though. :cb: I mean my Senegalese friend broke down while watching Mugal E Azam for crying out loud… and then there was that time he dived during a charity football match and his acting was hollywood stuntman worthy. :omg:

Dont even get me started on how pissed off Italians can be, especially on debates over coffee…

Re: Melodrama in Asian cultures

being desi is like being part of a life long movie, all desis including us at some point are emotional and sensitive :frusty:

So the answer is YES !!!

Re: Melodrama in Asian cultures

melodrama is when after a desi thuppar they zoom in on the victim 7 times from from different angles. to make sure they got every angle of his/her bhoota covered....
