Saw it -- alright movie, great music/photography and the "item" number is sensational. Can hardly believe they did that in Pak. Humayun and Mahnoor look good together, andt while it definitely breaks new ground, the movie is somewhat mass-oriented, playing on the (often incorrect) stereotypes. About 90% evening occupancy on its second weekend and cinemas have more or less maintained the frequency of screenings which indicates the movie is set to do well. Has already grossed over 2 crore in its first week, and the competition is tepid in the form of some mediocre Bollywood and tail-end Hollywood summer flicks. Keeping that in view, I predict the movie will probably end up grossing 6-7 Crores in Pak. Couple that with massive brand endorsements (Pepsi+some airline) present throughout the movie, foreign+satellite release and it's cumulative gross will be in 10-12 crore range which qualifies it to be a legit "hit." A def "dekko" flick. Waiting for Waar now :)

Is there one or two item songs ? One with Mahnoor and one with Mathira ? No ?
Is there one or two item songs ? One with Mahnoor and one with Mathira ? No ?
There's one at the start with both the actresses. It's hypnotic. There is another song which stars Mahnoor; a fantasy sequence shot at the sea with Humayun Saeed brooding over his lost love.
so this is the song that caused so much controversy ??
this is NOTHING compared to the usual disgusting, twisted pakistani songs. This song was done very tastefully. I liked the cirque de soleil -esque silk panels hanging from the ceiling.
stuff like this never seemed to bother anyone:
Song has a nice beat and I like the Arabic tune in the middle.
Who sang in this song and where was it filmed ?
Mahnoor looks good. Mathira has looked much better on morning shows and other videos.
Some bits and the scenes at the end could use a little bit of quainchi.
Did I see Aijaz Aslam ? What is he doing in there ?
Does this film qualify as being part of Lollywood or Kaliwood/Karawood/Kariwood ? :)
Shot in Karachi, with Aijaz Aslam making a guest appearance as Humayun Saeed's buddy in Dubai. Interestingly, the choreographer and production crew are also all Pakistanis.
Dooree -- I agree this is probably as about as tasteful as an item song can get. Bollywood is producing crap left right and center and no one minds watching that with their mom, dad and kids in tow.
This movie made 2.2 crores in first week. If the revenue sharing ratio with theaters is 80-20 or 70-30 then this movie would make 1.7-1.5 crores for its makers. In the second week the revenue sharing ratio falls down to 50-50 i think.
To recover 6 crores they will have to depend on DVD sales, Overseas rights and TV rights.
BTW Chennai made 8.5 in the same duration, still lags behind Race 2 which made like 9.2 crores.
The revenue sharing model does not apply because Mandviwalla (the distribution & production company behind the movie) runs most of the multiplexes where it’s being screened. Almost all the revenue the movie generates will be cashed in by the distributors.
